Դետոկսիկացիայի համար բազմատեսակ թեյերի սիրահարները պատկերացում իսկ չունեն, որ այդ ըմպելիքները կարող են հարուցել լուրջ խնդիրներ սրտում եւ աղիներում,- տեղեկացնում են բժիշկները: Դրանք չպետք է դառնան առողջ սննդի բաղկացուցիչը: Ինչ-որ փուլում դետոկսիկացնող թեյը դարձավ ավելորդ քաշի դեմ պայքարի եւ առողջության ամրապնդման ամենամոդայիկ միջոցներից մեկը:

Այդ ըմպելիքը խրախուսվում էր հայտնիների կողմից եւ վայելում էր ոչ քիչ առցանց-փառք: Բայց որքանո՞վ են մեր առողջության համար օգտակար այդ «օրգանիզմը մաքրող բնական միջոցները» բժիշկների տեսանկյունից:

Բրիտանացի բժիշկ Լորետա Իհոնորը կարծում է, որ այդ թեյերը հսկայական վնաս են պատճառում մարդու առողջությանը: Մինչ այդ բժիշկը նույնիսկ ստորագրահավաք էր նախաձեռնել, որպեսզի թեյերից հանվեն դետոքսիկացնող լուծողականները: Դրանց մեծ մասը պարունակում է սեննա լուծողական դեղմիջոցը (ալեքսանդրյան տերեւ)։

Այդ ըմպելիքներն արտադրողները ժլատ չեն հավաստիացումներում, թե դրանք ինչ մաքրիչ ազդեցություն են գործում օրգանիզմում, քայքայում են ճարպային նստվածքները ստամոքս-աղիքային տրակտում: Սակայն կա մի վերապահում. բոլոր այդ պնդումները բացարձակապես  չեն հիմնավորվում գիտական որեւէ ապացույցով:

Իրականում սեննան ստիմուլացնում է աղիների նորման գերազանցող կծկողականությունը, որի հետեւանքով մեր օրգանիզմին անհրաժեշտ ջուրը եւ էլեկտրոլիտները հեռանում են կղանքային զանգվածի հետ: Մի կարճ ժամանակահատված այդ ջրազրկումն իսկապես կարող է ապահովել նիհար տեսք, սակայն այն որեւէ կապ չունի ճարպերի կորստի հետ, քանի որ սննդի կալորիաները, դեռ չհասած հաստ աղիներ, կլանվում են բարակ աղիներում:

Բժշկության մեջ սեննան պաշտոնապես թույլատրված է միայն փորկապության դեպքում: Ընդ որում այդ պատրաստուկը կիրառվում է կարճաժամկետ` մեկ շաբաթից ոչ ավելի: Բացի այդ` բուժման ողջ ընթացքը պետք է լինի բացառապես բժշկի հսկողության ներքո: Եւ ստույգ է, որ այդ բաղադրիչը նախատեսված չէ 28 օրյա օգտագործման համար, ինչպես որ հիմնականում ցուցված է դետոկսիկացնող թեյերի համար: Այս ըմպելիքի որոշ արտադրողներ նույնիսկ խորհուրդ են տալիս այդ կուրսն անցնել նորից ու նորից` դադար առնելով միայն մեկ շաբաթ: 

Սեննայի այդպիսի երկարատեւ օգտագործումը կարող է հարուցել անուղղելի վնասներ աղեստամոքսային համակարգում: Մարդու աղիների գործունեությունը կարող է լիովին խաթարվել, այնպես որ մարդիկ ստիպված կլինեն հետագա ողջ կյանքի ընթացքում ապավինել լուծողականներին:  Օրգանիզմից էլեկտրոլիտների հեռացումը հանգեցնում է սրտամկանի ախտահարման, մկանային թուլության, լյարդի ախտահարման եւ առողջության ու կյանքի համար վտանգավոր այլ հետեւանքների:
