Եթե այսօր նույնիսկ ամբողջ աշխարհը միավորվի, չի կարող ԼՂՀ բնակչությանը համոզել ապրել Ադրբեջանի կազմում։ Այս մասին Սերժ Սարգսյանն ասել է արաբական «Ալ-Մայադին» հեռուստաալիքին տված հարցազրույցում։

Նրա խոսքով՝ միայն  Արցախի բնակիչները պետք է որոշեն Արցախի վերջնական կարգավիճակը՝ լինել անկախ պետություն, թե միանալ Հայաստանի Հանրապետությանը։

«Ինձ համար ամենակարեւորն այն է, որ Լեռնային Ղարաբաղի ժողովրդի անվտանգությունն ապահովվի, որ նրանք հնարավորություն ունենան ապրելու իրենց պատմական հայրենիքում, որտեղ ապրել են հազարամյակներ։ Իսկ այդ անվտանգությունը միայն Ադրբեջանի կազմից դուրս կարող է ապահովվել։ Եթե ինչ որ մի չար կատակով գոնե մեկ օր Լեռնային Ղարաբաղը հայտնվի Ադրբեջանի կազմում, այնտեղ ոչ մի հայ չի մնա։ Եվ եթե նույնիսկ հիմա ամբողջ աշխարհը միավորվի եւ ԼՂՀ բնակչությանը համոզի, որ պետք է ապրել Ադրբեջանի կազմում, հավատացեք, անհնար կինի, այդ մարդիկ չեն համաձայնի։ Խոսքը ուժի մասին չէ։ Կարելի է ղարաբաղցիներին ոչնչացնել, բռնություն կիրառել, բայց համոզել ապրել Ադրբեջանի կազմում, անհնար է։ Ադրբեջանի ղեկավարությունը սա պետք է հասկանա, սա է հիմնական խնդիրը. այդ մարդկանց որեւէ կերպ հնարավոր չէ պահել Ադրբեջանի կազմում»,– ասել է Սերժ Սարգսյանը։

Նախագահը հիշեցրել է՝ Արցախում հազարամյակներով ապրել են հայեր, եւ այն երբեք Ադրբեջանի մաս չի եղել։

«Ռուսաստանի խորհրդայնացումից հետո Կոմունիստական կուսակցության կովկասյան բյուրոյի որոշմամբ Լեռնային Ղարաբաղը բռնակցվեց Ադրբեջանին, չնայած  չուներ Ադրբեջանի հետ որեւէ ընդհանրություն։ Այդպես վարվեցին նաեւ Նախիջեւանի հետ, որն այսօր լիովին հայաթափվել է։ Հայկական պատմամշակութային ժառանգությունը գրեթե ամբողջովին ոչնչացվել է, մի քանի տարի առաջ մի քանի հազար խաչքար փշրվեց բոլորի աչքի առաջ, եւ ոչ ոք, այդ թվում ՅՈՒՆԵՍԿՕ–ն, չկարողացավ այդ հանցագործությունը կանխել։ Լեռնային Ղարաբաղում, սկսած 21 թվից, այդ մտքի հետ մարդիկ ուղղակի չեն համակերպել։ Եվ կախված նրանից, թե ինչ փոփոխութուններ էին տեղի ունենում ԽՍՀՄ–ում, որքան ազատ կարելի էր տեսակետ արտահայտել, այդ շարժումը պարբերաբար ելնում էր իրականություն. մարդիկ ցանկանում էին վերամիավորվել Հայաստանի հետ»,– ասել է Սերժ Սարգսյանը։

Նախագահը նկատել է, որ ղարաբաղյան հիմնախնդրի կարգավորումը բարդացնում է նաեւ հանգամանքը, որ մեր տարածաշրջանը թեեւ փոքր է, բայց այստեղ խաչվում են բազմաթիվ շահեր, որոնք չեն կարող ազդեցություն չունենալ մարտահրավերների, կոնֆլիկտների վրա։

«Ես համոզված եմ՝ եթե բանացային գործընթացում լինի միասնական մոտեցում, ապա խնդրի լուծման տարբերակը կգտնվի։ Բայց աշխարհն այդպես է զարգանում։ Չկա որեւէ տարածաշրջանային խնդիր, որը շատ երկրների կողմից չդիտարկվի իրենց ազգային շահերի տեսակետից»,– ասել է նա։
