Սխտորը աշխարհի շատ ժողովրդների մոտ հանդիսանում է «համեմունքների արքա» ոչ միայն իր համային որակներից ելնելով, այլ նաև առողջության համար օգտակար հատկությունների շնորհիվ: Այն օգնում է կարգավորել աղիների միկրոֆլորան, ամրապնդում է օրգանիզմի իմունային համակարգն ու պայքարում է բակտերիալ ինֆեկցիաների դեմ:

Ինչպես ցույց են տվել հետազոտություններից մեկի արդյունքները, սխտորը զգալիորեն նվազեցնում է բարձր ճնշումը: Համաձայն հետազոտության արդյունքների,  սխտորը զգալիորեն նվազեցնում է ինչպես սիստոլիկ ճնշումը (մինչև 12 մմ ս․ս․), այնպես էլ դիաստոլիկ ճնշումը(մինչև 9 մմ ս․ս):

3. Նվազեցնում է բորբոքումը

Որոշ հետազոտություններ ցույց են տվել, որ  սխտորը գործում է ոչ ստերոիդային հակաբորբոքային դեղամիջոցների` անաբոլիկների նման(ինչպես օրինակ իբուպրոֆենը) ու կանխում է բորբոքային պրոցեսները:

4.Նոսրացնում է արյունն ու այդ կերպ նվազեցնում է թրոմբների առաջացման հավանականությունը:

5.  Նվազեցնում է գրիպով ու մրսածության հիվանդություններով հիվանդանալու հավանականությունը:

6.  Օգնում է նյարդային համակարգի հիվանդությունների դեպքում:

7. Նվազեցնում է տրիգլիցերիդների մակարդակն ու այդ կերպ կանխում է աթերոսկրելոզի զարգացումը:

8. Օգնում է արյան մեջ նվազեցնել խոլեստերինի մակարդակը

Հետազոտության արդյունքները ցույց են տվել, որ այն օգնում է նվազեցնել խոլեստերինի,  լիպոպրոտեինների ու  տրիգլիցերիդների մակարդակը:

9. Ամրացնում է իմունիտետը

1 պճեղ սխտորը պարունակում է 5մգ կալցիում, 12 մգ  կալիում և ավելի քան 100 ծծմբային միացություններ, որը նրան դարձնում է ավելի քան հզոր միջոց՝ տարբեր տեսակի բակտերիաների ու ինֆեկցաների դեմ պայքարում:
