«Ժողովուրդ» թերթը գրում է. «Մի կաթիլ մեղր»-ը հիշեցնող պատմութան հետեւանքով հուլիսի 28-ից Վարդենիս քաղաքի բնակիչներ Հակոբ Թովմասյանն ու նրա որդին՝ Թովմասը, կալանավորված են: «Ժողովուրդ»-ը հուլիսի 29-ին գրել էր, որ Հ. Թովմասյանն ու նրա որդին կարտոֆիլի դաշտում ջուր անելուց հետո մի փոքր գինովցած մտել էին Վարդենիսի խանութներից մեկը՝ գնումներ անելու եւ տուն վերադառնալու նպատակով: Միաժամանակ խանութ էր մտել Վարդենիսի ոստիկանության աշխատակից Նարեկ Նիկողոսյանը (նրա անունը խնամքով թաքցնում էին եւ ոստիկանությունում, եւ քննչական կոմիտեում, բայց մենք պարզեցինք), վիճաբանություն հրահրել խանութում՝ հերթ կանգնելու առիթով, ապա Թովմասյաններին դուրս էր հանել ու խանութի բակում ծեծի ենթարկել:
Ոստիկանն իրեն պահել է լկտի, հայհոյել է քաղաքացիներին, անձամբ ծեծի ենթարկել Հ. Թովմասյանին եւ կապ հաստատել իր գործընկերների հետ, որպեսզի գան եւ բերման ենթարկեն հորն ու որդուն: Պարզվում է՝ ՀՀ ոստիկանության Վարդենիսի բաժնի պետ Համլետ Ղամբարյանը հայր ու որդի Թովմասյաններից վրեժ է լուծել եւ իր ենթակա Ն. Նիկողոսյանի միջոցով կռիվ հրահրել՝ նրանց նկատմամբ ՀՀ քր. օր. 316 հոդվածի հատկանիշներով՝ իշխանության ներկայացուցչի նկատմամբ բռնություն գործադրելու մեղադրանքով, գործ սարքելու եւ քննիչներին հանձնելու համար:
Աղվան Հովսեփյանի կոմիտեի քննիչներն էլ «ականջները կախ» կատարել են տեղական իրավապահների պատվերը (այստեղ գործին միացել է նաեւ Վարդենիսի դատախազ Կարեն Խաչատրյանը, որը «հին հաշիվներ» է ունեցել Հ. Թովմասյանի եղբոր հետ, ով տասնյակ տարիներ առաջ եղել է Վարդենիսի ոստիկանապետը եւ իր ընտանիքի հանցանքները «ջրի երես է հանել»):
Ահա, այսպես՝ «խոռ»-ով, ՀՀ քաղաքացու գլխին գործ են սարքել՝ ստիպելով որդի Թովմասյանին գրել իրենց համար ցանկալի ցուցմունք:
Հավելենք, որ հայր ու որդի Թովմասյանները ծեծի արդյունքում վնասվածքներ են ստացել, եւ հուսանք այս փաստը իրավապահները չեն թաքցրել՝ կատարելով պաշտոնեական դիրքի չարաշահում: «Ժողովուրդ»-ը այս միջադեպը պահում է իր ուշադրության կենտրոնում. բացահայտումներն առջեւում են»:
