Սումգայիթյան ոճրագործությունից տարիներ են անցել, սակայն համաշխարհային հանրությունը մինչև վերջ ճշմարտությանը հավատակից չի դարձել, ուստի անհրաժեշտություն կա շարունակելու քարոզչական դաշտում հայկական կողմի պայքարը: Ինչպես հաղորդում է «Արմենպրես»-ը, փետրվարի 26-ին գրող, հրապարակախոս Բակուր Կարապետյանի «Սումգայիթյան օրագիր» գրքի անգլերեն թարգմանության շնորհանդեսի ընթացքում նման կարծիք հայտնեց ԳԱԱ պատմության ինստիտուտի տնօրեն ակադեմիկոս Աշոտ Մելքոնյանը:

«Այսօր էլ կան ուժեր, որոնք տուրք են տալիս Խոջալուի դեպքերի վերաբերյալ Բաքվի  զեղծարարությանը և փոխարենը մոռացության մատնում ադրբեջանցիների ու ոչ վաղ անցյալում նրանց նախնիների՝ կովկասյան թաթարների կողմից հայերի դեմ կազմակերպված ջարդերն ու հայատյաց քաղաքականությունը»,- ասաց Աշոտ Մելքոնյանը: Ըստ պատմաբանի՝ ցավալի է, որ աշխարհում հաճախ են մոռանում 1905 թ. Բաքվում հայերի դեմ թաթարների ջարդերն ու ավերածությունները, 1920 թ. մարտին Շուշիի հայկական թաղամասի ավիրումն ու տեղի հայերի ջարդը, 1918 թ. սեպտեմբերին Բաքվում 30 հազար հայեր ի կոտորածը:

Աշոտ Մելքոնյանն ընդգծեց, որ Սումգայիթի ողբերգությունը պետականորեն կազմակերպված ցեղասպանական արարք էր:«Սումգայիթյան ջարդը նոր եղեռնագործություն էր, այն լիովին համապատասխանում է ՄԱԿ-ի Ցեղասպանության մասին կոնվենցիայով սահմանված հատկանիշներին, քանի որ հայերի դեմ ջարդերը, անկախ զոհերի քանակից, կատարվել են ազգային պատկանելիության հիման վրա»,- նշեց նա:

Պատմաբանը, զուգահեռներ անցկացնելով 1988 թ. Սումգայիթի ջարդի և 1905 թ. փետրվարին հայ-թաթարական ընդհարումների ժամանակ Բաքվի հայերի ջարդերի միջև, նշեց, որ երկու դեպքում էլ առկա էր սադրանքների նույն ձեռագիրը: Ինչպես և 1905 թվականի փետրվարին, ադրբեջանական իշխանությունները 1988 թ. փետրվարին ևս նախապես կազմակերպել էին ամեն ինչ, նախապատրաստել ջարդարարներին ու նրանց հրահրմամբ էլ վերջիններս սկսեցին կոտորել հայերին:

Գրքի հեղինակ Բակուր Կարապետյանն իր խոսքում ևս ընդգծեց, որ ողբերգությունը կազմակերպված էր նաև Կրեմլի կողմից. Միխայիլ Գորբաչյովը տեղյակ էր կազմակերպվող ջարդի մասին և դիտմամբ քայլեր չձեռնարկեց կանխելու այն: Ակադեմիկոս Վլադիմիր Բարխուդարյանը նշեց, որ Սումգայիթի ջարդը կազմակերպված էր, որպեսզի խուճապ առաջացնի Արցախի հայերի շրջանում և կասեցնի նրանց պայքարը:

Խոսելով Սումգայիթի ոճրի վերաբերյալ ադրբեջանական կողմի արձագանքի մասին՝ Աշոտ Մելքոնյանը նշեց. «Ինչպես այժմ, այն ժամանակ ևս Ադրբեջանը ստորաբար հենց իրենց՝ հայերին անվանեց որպես ջարդի կազմակերպիչներ: Ադրբեջանական հասարակության մեջ իսպառ բացակայում է մեղքի զգացումը»: Որպես դրա վառ վկայություն՝ պատմաբանը մի փաստ հիշեց. երբ Սումգայիթի ողբերգությունից հետո հայ ուսանողները արձագանք պահանջող նամակ ուղարկեցին Ադրբեջանի Գիտությունների ակադեմիային անդամներին, ի պատասխան՝ Մամեդով ազգանունով մի պատմաբան ոչ միայն չընդունեց կատարվածում ադրբեջանցիների մեղքը, այլև ագրեսիվ կերպով դարձյալ հայերին մեղադրեց կազմակերպման համար:
