Դեբեդը պարզապես գետ չէ․ այն հյուսիսային Հայաստանի պատմության, մշակույթի և բնության ողնաշարերից մեկն է, մի տարածք, որտեղ յուրաքանչյուր քար ու ոլորան իր պատմությունն ունի։

Դեբեդ գետը ձևավորվում է Փամբակ գետի և Ձորագետ գետի միախառնմամբ՝ Ալավերդիի շրջակայքում։ Այն հոսում է Լոռու մարզով, ապա անցնում Վրաստան և միանում Քուռ գետին։ Գետի ընդհանուր երկարությունը մոտ 176 կմ է, որից զգալի մասը գտնվում է Հայաստանի տարածքում։

Դեբեդի կիրճը համարվում է երկրի ամենագեղատեսիլ վայրերից մեկը․ այստեղ բարձր ժայռերը, խիտ անտառներն ու մշուշով պատված լեռները ստեղծում են դրամատիկ բնապատկերներ, որոնք հատկապես տպավորիչ են աշնանը և գարնանը։

Դեբեդի ավազանը դարեր շարունակ եղել է մշակութային խոշոր կենտրոն։ Այստեղ են գտնվում հայկական ճարտարապետության գլուխգործոցներ՝ Հաղպատ վանքը և Սանահին վանքը, որոնք ընդգրկված են ՅՈՒՆԵՍԿՕ-ի համաշխարհային ժառանգության ցանկում։ Այս վանքերը ոչ միայն կրոնական, այլև կրթական կենտրոններ էին, որտեղ զարգանում էին գիտությունը, գրականությունն ու ձեռագրարվեստը։

Գետի երկայնքով պահպանվել են նաև միջնադարյան կամուրջներ, ամրոցների ավերակներ և հին բնակավայրեր, որոնք վկայում են, որ Դեբեդի կիրճը եղել է կարևոր առևտրային և ռազմավարական ուղի։

Դեբեդի շրջանը հարուստ է բուսական և կենդանական աշխարհով։ Անտառներում կարելի է հանդիպել կաղնի, բոխի, հաճարի ծառեր, իսկ կենդանական աշխարհում՝ աղվեսներ, գայլեր և տարբեր թռչնատեսակներ։ Գետն ինքնին կարևոր է նաև ձկնատեսակների համար, թեև վերջին տասնամյակներին էկոլոգիական խնդիրները որոշակի ազդեցություն են ունեցել դրանց վրա։

Դեբեդը կարևոր դեր է խաղացել նաև արդյունաբերական զարգացման մեջ։ Խորհրդային տարիներին գետի հովիտում զարգացած էին հանքարդյունաբերությունը և մետալուրգիան, հատկապես Ալավերդիում։ Գետը օգտագործվել է նաև էներգետիկ նպատակներով՝ փոքր հիդրոէլեկտրակայանների միջոցով։

Այսօր տարածաշրջանը աստիճանաբար վերածվում է զբոսաշրջային կենտրոնի․ էքստրեմալ տուրիզմ, արշավներ, հեծանվային երթուղիներ և մշակութային տուրեր են կազմակերպվում Դեբեդի կիրճում։ Շատերի համար սա այն վայրն է, որտեղ կարելի է միաժամանակ զգալ բնության ուժը և պատմության շունչը։

Դեբեդի «գաղտնիքները»

Տեղացիները հաճախ պատմում են, որ Դեբեդի կիրճում կան դեռևս չբացահայտված քարայրներ ու հնավայրեր։ Որոշ հատվածներում կարելի է գտնել ժայռապատկերների հետքեր կամ հին ճանապարհների մնացորդներ, որոնք ժամանակին կապել են տարբեր բնակավայրեր։ Այս ամենը Դեբեդը դարձնում է ոչ միայն տեսարժան, այլև առեղծվածային վայր։

Դեբեդը մի ամբողջ պատմություն է՝ գրված ջրով ու քարերով։ Այն միաժամանակ անցյալ է և ներկա, բնություն և մշակույթ։ Եվ որքան էլ ուսումնասիրված լինի, միշտ թվում է, թե գետը դեռ պահում է իր ամենամեծ գաղտնիքները՝ սպասելով նոր բացահայտումների։
