Պիցաբալան փորձել է մեկնել Երուսաղեմի Հին քաղաքում գտնվող եկեղեցի՝ եկեղեցու պաշտոնական պահապան, վերապատվելի Ֆրանչեսկո Իելպոյի հետ՝ Ծաղկազարդի պատարագ մատուցելու համար։

Ըստ Լատին պատրիարքության, հոգևորականներին ճանապարհին կանգնեցրել են և ստիպել հետ դառնալ, ինչը «դարերի ընթացքում առաջին դեպքն է», երբ հնարավոր չի եղել Ծաղկազարդի պատարագ մատուցել եկեղեցում, որը քրիստոնեության ամենասուրբ վայրն է և կառուցված է այնտեղ, որտեղ, շատերի համոզմամբ, խաչվել է Հիսուսը։

Հայտարարության մեջ նշվում է, որ Հին քաղաքի բոլոր սրբավայրերը, որտեղ գտնվում են քրիստոնեական, մուսուլմանական և հրեական սրբությունները, փակվել են հավատացյալների համար, երբ փետրվարին սկսվել է պատերազմն Իրանի հետ։ «Իրանը բազմիցս բալիստիկ հրթիռներով հարվածներ է հասցրել Երուսաղեմում բոլոր երեք միաստվածային կրոնների սրբավայրերին։ Հարվածներից մեկի հետևանքով հրթիռի բեկորներն ընկել են Սուրբ Հարության տաճարից մի քանի մետր հեռավորության վրա։ Դավանանքի ազատությունը կշարունակի պահպանվել՝ անհրաժեշտ սահմանափակումների կիրառմամբ»,- ասված է իսրայելական ոստիկանության հայտարարության մեջ։ Ծաղկազարդի պաշտոնական թափորը, որին սովորաբար մասնակցում են հազարավոր քրիստոնյաներ, չեղարկվել էր անցյալ շաբաթ՝ Իսրայելի կողմից մարդկանց մեծ հավաքների արգելքի համաձայն, իսկ Լատին պատրիարքությունը վկայակոչել է «հակամարտությամբ պայմանավորված սահմանափակումները»։

Կիրակնօրյա հայտարարության մեջ Իտալիայի վարչապետ Ջորջիա Մելոնին համերաշխություն է հայտնել Պիցաբալային, Իելպոյին և մյուսներին, որոնց իսրայելական իշխանություններն այսօր թույլ չեն տվել Ծաղկազարդի պատարագ մատուցել Սուրբ Հարության տաճարում։

«Երուսաղեմի պատրիարքի և Սուրբ Երկրի պահապանների մուտքը մերժելը, հատկապես հավատքի համար այնպիսի կարևոր տոնին, ինչպիսին Ծաղկազարդն է, հանցագործություն է ոչ միայն հավատացյալների, այլև ցանկացած համայնքի դեմ, որը ճանաչում է դավանանքի ազատությունը»,- հավելել է նա։

Ֆրանսիայի նախագահ Էմանուել Մակրոնը նույնպես դատապարտել է իսրայելական ոստիկանության որոշումը Երուսաղեմի վերաբերյալ, որն, ըստ նրա, «լրացնում է Երուսաղեմի սրբավայրերի կարգավիճակի խախտումների մտահոգիչ շարքը»։

Նախքան միջադեպը, Հռոմի Պապ Լևոն XIV-ը Վատիկանում Ծաղկազարդի իր ուղերձը սկսել էր՝ ընդգծելով, որ իր աղոթքները «ավելի քան երբևէ ուղղված են Մերձավոր Արևելքի քրիստոնյաներին»։ Նա դա կրկնել է X սոցիալական ցանցի իր էջում՝ միջադեպից հետո՝ առանց անմիջականորեն անդրադառնալու կատարվածին։
