24-ամյա Էմմա Մյուրրեի քաշը մի քանի ամսվա ընթացքում կտրուկ ավելացել էր, սակայն աղջիկն այլ խնդիրներ ուներ, այդ պատճառով էլ նա դրան մեծ նշանակություն չէր տալիս: Սակայն մի օր, նրան անմիջապես հիվանդանոց տարան՝ որովայնի ուժեղ ցավով, և պարզվեց, որ աղջիկը ծննդաբերում է: Դա շոկի ենթարկեց Էմմային, քանի որ նա հղիության ոչ մի նշան չէր նկատել:
Երբ փոքրիկը լույս աշխարհ եկավ, բժիշկներն անմիջապես նկատեցին, որ փոքրիկի գլխի չափերը անհամեմատ մեծ է նորմայից: Հետազոտություններից հետո, նրանք իմացան սարսափելի ճշմարտությունը. Տղայի մոտ հազվադեպ հանդիպող պաթոլոգիա էր՝ գոլոպրոզենցեֆալիա: Լիարժեք ուղեղի փոխարեն տղայի մոտ միայն ուղեղի կաղապարն էր զարգացել, որը մարդուն միայն շնչելու և շարժվելու հնարավորություն է տալիս, ոչ ավելին:
Բժիշկները վստահեցնում էին Էմմային, որ նրա որդին մեկ օրից ավել չի ապրի, բայց նա չէր հուսահատվում. տղան ապրեց: Իսկ երկու տարի անց ևս մեկ հրաշք տեղի ունեցավ. փոքրիկն ասեց «մայրիկ» բառը:
