ՀԱՆՐԱՀԱՅՏ ՄՈԼՈՐՈՒԹՅՈՒՆՆԵՐ
«Փաստ» օրաթերթը գրում է
Բասկետբոլը թիմային մարզաձև է։ Անունը ծագել է երկու անգլերեն բառերից՝ basket զամբյուղ, ball - գնդակ: Խաղի նպատակն է ձեռքերով հնարավորինս շատ գնդակներ նետել հակառակորդի զամբյուղը: Միացյալ Նահանգներն է համարվում բասկետբոլ ի ծննդավայրը։ 1891 թվականին Սփրինգֆիլդի քրիստոնեական քոլեջի ֆիզիկական կուլտուրայի ուսուցիչ Ջեյմս Նեյսմիթը մի անսովոր խաղ է հորինել։ Խաղի նպատակն էր երեխաների մոտ զարգացնել ոչ միայն ուժն ու ճարպկությունը, այլ նաև շարժումների համակարգումը։ Ջեյմս Նեյսմիթը ուսանողներին երկու թիմերի է բաժանել, առանց հատակի մրգային զամբյուղներ կապել մարզասրահի պատերին, նրանց տվել գնդակ և առաջարկել խաղալ՝ գնդակը գցելով հակառակորդի զամբյուղը:
Այն ժամանակվա խաղը շատ քիչ է նման եղել ժամանակակից բասկետբոլին։ Խաղացողները պարզապես գնդակ էին նետում միմյանց՝ տեղում մնալով։ Սակայն արտասովոր խաղի մասին խոսակցությունները սկսել են արագորեն տարածվել ամբողջ քաղաքում և երկրում։ Ի սկզբանե, բասկետբոլ խաղացել են ֆուտբոլային գնդակով, բայց կարեր ունեցող գնդակը հաճախ էր վնասում խաղացողների մատները, և ստեղծվել է արտաքինից առանց կարերի բասկետբոլի գնդակը: Զամբյուղներն օգտագործվել են մինչև 1906 թվականը, որից հետո դրանք փոխարինվել են վահանակին (հետնապատին) ամրացված մետաղական օղակներով։
Այդ փոփոխությամբ գնդակը հեշտությամբ անցնում էր օղակի միջով: Մեկ տարի անց Նեյսմիթը որոշել է մշակել իր ստեղծած խաղի կանոնների առաջին 13 կետերը։ Նույն տարում կանանց բասկետբոլի առաջին կանոններն են մշակվել Նորթհեմփթոնի կանանց քոլեջի ֆիզկուլտուրայի ուսուցչի կողմից։ Իսկ արդեն 1894 թվականին ԱՄՆ-ում ընդունվել են խաղի պաշտոնական կանոնները։ Ամերիկայի կեսը ընկղմվել է «բասկետբոլային խելագարության» մեջ: Արագ տեմպերով խաղը տարածվել է ամբողջ աշխարհում: Խաղը նախ նվաճել է Արևելքը՝ թափանցելով Ճապոնիա, Ֆիլիպիններ և այլ երկրներ, ապա՝ Եվրոպան և Հարավային Ամերիկան։
1919 թվականին տեղի է ունեցել տղամարդկանց առաջին միջազգային մրցաշարը, իսկ 1923 թվականին՝ կանանց միջազգային մրցաշարը։ 1920-ական թվականներին բազմաթիվ երկրներում սկսել են ստեղծվել ազգային ասոցիացիաներ, իսկ 1932 թվականին ստեղծվել է Բասկետբոլի միջազգային ֆեդերացիան, որն ընդգրկում էր 8 երկիր։ 1924 և 1928 թվականներին բասկետբոլն առաջին անգամ մտցվել է ամառային օլիմպիական խաղերի ծրագիր՝ որպես ցուցադրական մարզաձև, իսկ 1936 թվականին այն պաշտոնապես է ընդգրկվել Բեռլինի ամառային օլիմպիական խաղերի ծրագրում։
