Ի տարբերություն ԱՄՆ-ում ՀՀ դեսպան Լիլիթ Մակունցի, Թաթոյանը չի խորշում հանդիպել Քալիֆորնիայի հայ համայնքի ակտիվի հետ, չի կիրառում ֆլիլտրեր՝ հանդիպման մասնակիցների նկատմամբ: Այս առումով Թաթոյանը իրականացնում է համ ՄԻՊ-ի, համ սփյուռքի և ԱԳ նախարարի համ էլ բացակա դեսպանի ֆունկցիաներ:
Թաթոյանը ամերիկացիներին և ամերիկահայերին ներկայացնում է ադրբեջանական ագրեսիայի հետևանքները, ինչը կարծես Հայաստանի հանրային դիվանագիտության առաջնահերթություն չի համարվում:
Ցավալի է, որ նման կարևոր այցի կազմակերպման և լուսաբանմանման հարցում ԱՄՆ-ում ՀՀ դեսպանությունը որևէ կերպ չի աջակցել»:
