Մեծ Բրիտանիայի եւ ԱՄՆ-ի հոգեբանները նշել են, թե ինչ պետք է անեն այն մարդիկ, ովքեր ձգտում են հասնել իրենց անձնական նպատակների իրագործմանը: Իրենց հետազոտությունների արդյունքները հեղինակները հրապարակել են Psychological Bulletin-ում, դրանց մասին հակիրճ հաղորդում է Independent-ը:
Գիտնականների կարծիքով՝ որքան ավելի հաճախ է մարդը հետեւում իր կողմից առաջադրված նպատակին հասնելու առաջընթացին, այնքան նա ավելի մեծ շանսեր ունի իրագործելու այն: Հոգեբաններն ընդգծել են համապատասխան օրագիր վարելու եւ հաջողությունները հարազատների ու ընկերների հետ քննարկելու դրական դերը:
Իրենց աշխատության մեջ գիտնականները վերլուծել են 138 հետազոտությունների տվյալները, որոնք ներառում էին 19 հազար 951 մասնակիցների եւ նվիրված էին այն բանին, թե ինչպես է առաջադրված նպատակներին հասնելու վերահսկողությունն ազդում դրանց իրագործման վրա:
Մասնավորապես, հոգեբաններին հետաքրքրում էին ծխելուց հրաժարվելու, քաշի եւ զարկերակային ճնշման նվազեցման, սննդակարգի փոփոխման հետ կապված նպարակները եւ անձնական այլ հարցեր, որոնք վերաբերում էին մասնակիցների առողջությանը:
Առաջադրված նպատակներին հասնել ցանկացող մարդկանց գիտնականները խորհուրդ են տվել ավելի հաճախ գրի առնել ընթացիկ հաջողությունները եւ դրանք քննարկել հրապարակավ: Նաեւ հոգեբանները նշել են աջակցման համապատասխան խմբերի արդյունավետությունը, որտեղ դրանց մասնակիցները քննարկում են իրենց արձանագրած արդյունքները:
