Դերասանուհու համար կարեւոր չէ, թե ինչ ժանրի ստեղծագորություն է կարդում, այս հարցում նա պարզապես հստակ սկզբունք ունի.
«Ինչպես երաժշտության, նկարչության, ֆիլմերի դեպքում, այնպես էլ գրականության առումով չունեմ նախընտրած ժանր, գլխավորը՝ ընթերցանության ժամանակ հեղինակը կարողանա ձեռքիցդ բռնել ու տանել իր աշխարհ»,- նշեց Գայանեն:
Հիշելով իր առաջին գիրքը, որի տպավորությունները մինչ օրս նրան ուղեկցում են, պատմեց.
«Առաջին ստեղծագործությունները, որոնք սկսեցի կարդալ, հեքիաթներ էին, հիմնականում Հանս Քրիստինա Անդերսեն: «Ջրահարսը» հեքիաթը մեծ տպավորություն է թողել ինձ վրա: Հիշում եմ, երբ կարդում էի այն, վերջում միշտ հուզվում էի: Առաջին վեպը, որ ընթերցել եմ Հեկտոր Մալոյի «Առանց ընտանիքի»-ն էր, հետո հետաքրքրվեցի Ժյուլ Վեռնի արկածներով: Սրանց հաջորդեց Ջեկ Լոնդոնի ստեղծագործությունները, ապա Անտուան դը Սենտ-Էքզյուպերիի «Փոքրիկ իշխանը», Հերման Մելվիլի «Մոբի դիք»-ը, Թոմ Սոյերի արկածները, ու էլի շատ վեպեր եւ պատմվածքներ»:
