1918 թվականից Խորհրդային Ռուսաստանի բնակիչները մայիսի մեկը նշում էին երկու փուլով. Մայիսի մեկին կազմակերպում էին խաղաղ ցույցեր, դե իսկ մայիսի երկուսին էլ վերադառնում էին սովորական ռուս մարդու կենսակերպին ̀ շատ խմիչք և քիչ ուտելիք:
Մայիսի մեկը Ֆրանսիայում պետական տոն է: Ֆրանսիայում բողոքի ցույցեր տեղի են ունենում մինչ օրս: Լավագույն նվերը մինչ օրս համարվում է հովտաշուշանը: Ընդունված է ծաղիկը չորացնել և պահել ամբողջ տարի: Նախօրեին կոմունիստներն ամբողջ երկրում վաճառում են հովտաշուշան ̀ 1 եվրոյով:
Շվեդները մայիսի մեկին նշում են Գարնան և գարնանացանի օրերը: Մարդիկ հավաքվում են այգիներում կամ մերձքաղաքային անտառներում: Երգում են, հյուսում ծաղիկներ, վառում խարույկներ և թռչում դրանց վրայով:
Գերմանիայում մայիսի մեկին նշում են Վալպուրգիևյան գիշերը: Արհմիությունների կողմից կազմակերպված մայիսմեկյան տոնը հաճախ ավարտվում է ցուցափեղկեր կոտրելով, մեքենաներ այրելով և ոստիկանների հետ բախումներով:
Շոտլանդիայում և Ուելսում, սկսած վաղ միջնադարից, նշում էին Բելտեյն հոգևոր տոնը: Այն նվիրված էր պտղաբերության աստված Բելենեսին: Այդ օրը պարտադիր է խարույկներ վառել: Այն մինչ այժմ նշվում է շոտլադնական Էդինբուրգում:

Չինաստանում, մինչև վերջերս, մայիսի մեկը համարվում էր երեք <<Ոսկյա շաբաթներից>> մեկի սկիզբը: Այդ ամբողջ շաբաթվա ընթացքում աշխատողներին տրվում էր հանգստի իրավունք: 2007-ից այն արգելեցին, քանի որ վատ էր անդրադառնում արդյունաբերության և առևտրի վրա:
