Ամերիկյան հեղինակավոր The Washington Post պարբերականը քննադատել է մարդու իրավունքների նկատմամբ բռնաճնշումների՝ Ադրբեջանի իշխանությունների քաղաքականությունը:
«Ոչ, սա է Ադրբեջանի բռնաճնշումների մասին ճշմարտությունը» վերնագրված խմբագրականում թերթը գրում է, որ Ադրբեջանի առաջին տիկինը՝ Մեհրիբան Ալիևան վերջերս Փարիզում էր, որտեղ բացել է «Ադրբեջան, հանդուրժողականության երկիր» վերնագրված ֆոտոցուցահանդեսը:
Լրագրողներից մեկը հարցրել է, թե արդյոք Ադրբեջանն իսկապես նման տեղ է՝ նշելով, որ Ադրբեջանի բանտերը լցված են քաղբանտարկյալներով: «Ինչպե՞ս կարող եք նման բան ասել: Դա ճիշտ չէ»,- ասել է Ալիևան և կոչ արել լրագրողին «ճիշտ տեղեկատվություն ստանալ»:
Լրագրողն այնուհետև խնդրել է նրան մեկնաբանել իրավապաշտպան Լեյլա Յունուսի և լրագրող Խադիջա Իսմայիլովայի ազատազրկումը, ինչին պատասխան չի հաջորդել. առաջին տիկինը մեջքով է շրջվել մինչ անվտանգության աշխատակիցները լրագրողին հեռացրել են:
Եթե նա «ճիշտ տեղեկատվություն» է ցանկանում, գուցե Ալիևան և նրա ամուսինը՝ նախագահ Իլհամ Ալիևը պետք է կարդան սեպտեմբերի 10-ին Եվրոպական խորհրդարանի կողմից հաստատված բանաձևը Ադրբեջանի վերաբերյալ, գրում է թերթը՝ հատվածներ մեջբերելով բանաձևից Ադրբեջանում տիրող վիճակի մասին:
Ադրբեջանում մարդու իրավունքների հետ կապված վիճակի վերաբերյալ այս մեղադրական եզրակացության հաստատումից մեկ օր անց երկրի իշխանությունները չեղյալ են հայտարարել Եվրոպական հանձնաժողովի պատվիրակության ծրագրված այցը, որի ընթացքում պետք է քննարկվեր Ադրբեջանի հետ առաջարկվող ռազմավարական գործընկերության համաձայնությունը:
Թերթը հիշեցնում է, որ մի քանի օր անց Ալիևը Բաքվում դպրոցականների հետ հանդիպման ընթացքում հայտարարել է, որ ինչ-որ արտաքին թշնամիներ «ցանկանում են հպատակեցնել Ադրբեջանին, ստիպել նրան ապրել իրենց հրահանգների համաձայն»:
«Ալիևը երկար ժամանակ վստահ է եղել, որ կարող է երկրի ներսում ճնշել այլակարծությունը՝ հակադարձելով երկրի սահմաններից դուրս հնչող քննադատությանը: Նա միլիոնավոր դոլարներ է ծախսեր օտար երկրներում բարի կամքի ջանքերի վրա: Էլ ավելի շատ միլիոններ են ծախսվել Բաքվում Եվրոպական խաղերը հյուրընկալելու համար: Բայց Ալիևը չի կարող այդպես հավերժ շարունակել: Յունուսի և նրա ամուսնու՝ Արիֆի, ինչպես նաև Իսմայիլովայի նկատմամբ սարսափելի վերաբերմունքը լայն ուշադրության են արժանացել աշխարհում և չեն կարող ջնջվել Փարիզում բացված մի ֆոտոցուցահանդեսի օգնությամբ»,– գրում է հեղինակը:
