Անգլիայի հյուսիսում, Մանչեսթերի շրջակայքում գործարկվել է աշխարհի խոշորագույն կրիոգեն էլեկտրակայանը,հայտնում է BBC–ի Ռուսական ծառայությունը։
Դրա աշխատանքի հիմքում գիշերային ժամերին էժան էլեկտրաէներգիայի գործածումով կրիոգեն տարրաներում պահվող օդի նոսրացումն է, որը հետո տաքանում է ու ընդլայնվում, մտնում տուրբիններ ու արտադրում էլեկտրաէներգիա, որը մատակարարվում է ցանց։
Դա պիլոտային նախագիծ է, որը նախատեսված է հետագայում ընդլայնել։ Կրիոգեն էլեկտրակայանի հզորությունը կազմում է 5 ՄՎտ, ինչը բավական է 5 հազար ընտանիքների երեք ժամ էներգիա մատակարարելու համար։
Highview Power Storage ընկերությունը, որը կառուցել է այդ էլեկտրակայանը, վտահեցնում է, որ էլեկտրաէներգիայի արտադրման նման սխեման հեշտությամբ կարելի է ընդլայնել ու գործածել էներգիայի այլընտրանքային աղբյուրների հետ միասին, մանավանդ արեւային ու քամու էներգետիկայի ոլորտներում։
