Բրիտանական The Telegraph պարբերականն ուշագրավ անդրադարձ է հրապարակել Դոմինիկյան Հանրապետության ամենահեռավոր ու մեկուսացված գյուղերից մեկի` Սալինասի վերաբերյալ:

Աղբյուրը պատմում է, որ գյուղի իգական սեռի բնակիչների մեծ մասը հազվագյուտ գենետիկ մուտացիայի հետևանքով սեռահասունության շրջանում միանգամայն բնական ճանապարհով սեռափոխվում է` ձեռք բերելով տղամարդուն բնորոշ սեռական օրգաններ:

Պարբերականը նկատում է, որ նման սեռափոխման դեպքերն այնքան տարածված են Սալինասում, որ դրանք այլևս աննորմալ չեն համարվում:

Ըստ մասնագետների բացատրության, բացառիկ մուտացիայի պատճառն ի ծնե բացակայող էնզիմն է` դիհիդրոտեստեստերոնը, որը սկսում է սեռահասության շրջանում առատորեն արտադրվել, ինչը վերջիվերջո հանգեցնում է առնանդամի առաջացման:

Պարբերականը մանրամասնում է, որ դեռևս մայրական արգանդում գտնվելու ժամանակ, երբ պտուղը դառնում է 8 շաբաթական, նրա օրգանիզմում սկսվում է վերոհիշյալ դիհիդոտեստեստերոն հորմոնը, որի շնորհիվ ձևավորվում է առնադամն ու այդպիսով որոշվում է ապագա երեխայի սեռը: Մինչդեռ եթե տվյալ հորմոնի արտադրությունը բացակայում է, ուրեմն երեխայի սեռը որոշվում է որպես իգական:


Ինչ վերաբերում է Սալինասի տարօրինակ բնակիչներին, ապա նրանց մոտ ի ծնե այդ հորմոնը բացակայում է, սակայն սեռահասունության շրջանում այն մեծ քանակով արտադրվում է:

Հետաքրքրական է, որ սեռափոխված երեխաների մեծ մասը պատմել է, որ գիտակցական տարիքից իրենք իրենց աղջիկ չեն համարել ու միշտ տղա լինելու ցանկություն են ունեցել:

Հայտնի է, որ սեռափոխված բնակիչների թիվը Սալինասում գերազանցում է 90-ը:
