 Իրաքի զինված ուժերի գլխավոր հրամանատար, վարչապետ Հեյդար ալ-Իբադին հայտարարել է երկրի ամենախոշոր երկրորդ քաղաքը` Մոսուլը «Իսլամական պետություն» ահաբեկչական խմբավորումից ազատագրելու խոշորամասշտաբ ցամաքային գործողություն սկսելու մասին: Ինչպես հաղորդում է «Արմենպրես»-ը` վկայակոչելով ՏԱՍՍ-ը, այս մա սին հաղորդել է «Աս-սումարիա» հեռուստաալիքը:

Իրաքի վարչապետը հայտարարել է, որ քաղաքը ԻՊ գրոհայիններից ազատելու են «իրաքյան բանակը և տեղական ոստիկանության ջոկատները»: «Հորդորում ենք տեղի բնակիչներին համագործակցել ազատարար ուժերի հետ»,- հայտարարել է ալ-Իբադին:

Sky News Arabia հեռուստաալիքի տվյալներով` ցամաքային գործողություններին մասնակցում է ավելի քան 60 հազար մարդ: Կառավարական ուժերի կազմում են նաև քրդական ռազմական միավորները` փեշմերգաները: Նրանց աջակցություն են ցուցաբերում ԱՄՆ գլխավորած հակաահաբեկչական միջազգային կոալիցիայի օդային ուժերը, ինչպես նաև հրետանին:

Պենտագոնից արդեն հայտարարել են Իրաքին աջակցելու պատրաստակամության մասին:

Մոսուլում, որը գրեթե առանց դիմադրության 2014 թվականի հունիսին տրվել է ԻՊ ծայրահեղականներին, ներկայում գտնվում է շուրջ 1,3 մլն մարդ: Նրանց որպես գերի պահում են «Իսլամական  պետություն» խմբավորման ավելի քան 6 հազար զինյալներ: ԻՊ ծայրահեղականները քաղաքը համարում են Իրաքում իրենց մայրաքաղաքը:

ՄԱԿ-ի գլխավոր քարտուղարի հումանիտար հարցերով տեղակալ Սթիվեն օ′Բրայանը մտավախություն է հայտնել, որ Մոսուլի ազատագրման գործողությունը կարող է վտանգել 1,5 մլն մարդու կյանք:
