Արցախի դիրքերից մեկում հոկտեմբերի 15-ի առավոտյան, դեռեւս չպարզված հանգամանքներում մահացու հրազենային վնասվածք ստացած 19-ամյա Վահագն Վիրաբյանը Եղվարդի բնակիչ էր: Վահագնը ընտանիքի միակ արու զավակն էր, ունի իրենից մեծ երկու քույր: Նա շուտով պետք է զորացրվեր:

Ավելի վաղ հայտնել էինք, որ զինվորական քննչական գլխավոր վարչության երկրորդ կայազորային քննչական բաժնում հարուցվել է քրեական գործ՝ ժամկետային զինծառայող Վահագն Գագիկի Վիրաբյանի սպանության դեպքի առթիվ։

Նախնական տվյալներով՝ հոկտեմբերի 15-ին, ժամը 08:40-ի սահմաններում, N զորամասի պահպանության տեղամասի մարտական դիրքում հերթապահության նշանակված ժամկետային զինծառայող, շարքային Վահագն Գագիկի Վիրաբյանի ուղղությամբ արձակվել են կրակոցներ՝ վերջինիս պատճառելով մահացու հրազենային վիրավորումներ:

Դեպքի առթիվ երկրորդ կայազորային քննչական բաժնում հարուցվել է քրեական գործ՝  ՀՀ քրեական օրենսգրքի 104-րդ հոդվածի 1-ին մասով (սպանություն), կատարվում է նախաքննություն:

Կատարվել են դեպքի վայրի, դիակի արտաքին զննություններ, վերցվել են նմուշներ, քրեական գործով էական նշանակություն ունեցող հանգամանքները պարզելու համար  նշանակվել փորձաքննություններ: Ձեռնարկված անհետաձգելի քննչական գործողությունների արդյունքում պարզվել են մի շարք հանգամանքներ, այդ թվում հայտնաբերվել է հրազենը, որով զինծառայողի ուղղությամբ արձակվել են կրակոցները եւ թե ում  է եղել այն ամրակցված։
