Մենք հաճախ ուժեղ ձեռքսեղմումը նույնացնում ենք ինքնավստահության հետ, սակայն այն նաև խոսում է մեր՝ առողջ լինելու և երկար կյանք ունենալու մասին:

Մի շարք բժիշկներ և գիտնականներ կարծում են, որ մարդու՝ ձեռքսեղմելու ուժը կարող է նրա տարիքի և ծերանալու մասին շատ բաներ հուշել: Ուսումնասիրությունները ցույց են տալիս, որ այն կանայք և տղամարդիկ, ովքեր ուժեղ են ձեռք սեղմում, ավելի երկարակյաց են, քան նրանք, ում ձեռքսեղմումը թույլ է:

Ըստ Բրիտանիայում անց կացրած մի վերլուծության՝ թույլ ձեռքսեղմում ունեցող մարդկանց մոտ 70%-ով ավելի հավանական էր շուտ մահանալը, քան ավելի ուժեղ ձեռքսեղմում ունեցող մարդկանց մոտ:

Այս վարկածը բացատրում են այսպես. մկանի ուժը ուղեկցվում է մարդու ընդհանուր առողջության հետ: Ուստի՝ թույլ ձեռքսեղմումով մարդիկ ավենայն հավանականությամբ հիվանդ են կամ էլ դժվարությամբ են վերականգնվում:

Բացի այդ՝ ուժեղ սեղմելը միայն ֆիզիկական առողջության հետ չէ կապված: Ոսումնասիրությունը նաև ցույց է տալիս, որ ուժեղ ձեռքսեղմումով մարդկանց մոտ ավելի քիչ հավանական է մտավոր խանգարումներ ունենալը:

Ուսումնասիրության ժամանակ հետազոտվել են տարբեր տարիքային խմբերում գտնվող ավելի քան 11.000 գերմանացիներ: Հաշվի էին առնվել մասնակիցների սեռը և հասակը: Պարզվեց, որ ձեռքսեղմումի ուժը իր գագաթնակետին հասնում է 30-ից 40 տարեկաններում, և դրանից հետո այն սկսում է թուլանալ:

Վիեննայի համալսարանի հետազոտող Նադիա Շտայբերն ասում է, որ այս նոր բացահայտումը կարող է օգնել բժիշկներին ավելի հեշտությամբ հետազոտել իրենց հիվանդներին:
