1897թ. ավստրիացի բիզնեսմեն Էմիլ Յելինեկը Daimler մեքենա գնեց: Մեծահարուստի Daimler Phoenix-ը մեծ հիացմունք ու հետաքրքրություն առաջացրեց նրա շրջապատում, և Յելինեկը պատվիրեց մեքենան արտադրող ընկերությանը ևս մի քանի մեքենա ստեղծել իր սիրելի 9-ամյա դստեր՝ Մերսեդեսի անունով, իսկ մեքենաների վրա տեղադրել լեգենդար ապրանքանիշի հայտնի տարբերանշանը:

Mercedes-ի լեգենդար ապրանքանշանը 

 Գիտակցելով նոր մեքենայի խոստումնալից հեռանկարները՝ նա  այդ տարբերանշանը տեղադրեց ևս 36 մեքենաների վրա ՝ այդպիսով մաս դառնալով «Daimler Motoren Gesellschaft» (DMG)  ընկերության  բաժնետոմսերի մի մասին:

Այսպիսով այս նոր ապրանքանշանը լայնորեն սկսեց գովազդվել աշխարհի տարբեր երկրներում: 1900 թվականին գրանցված ընկերությունը հենց սկզբից էլ իր համար ընտրեց եռագագաթ աստղը, որը խորհրդանշում է մեքենաշինության բնագավառում բիզնեսի աճը օդում, ջրում և ցամաքում:
