Կիտ Փիրս անունով տղան վերջերս էր ընկերների, ընտանիքի անդամների հետ տոնել իր 10 տարեկանը։ Բայց ծննդյան տոնակատարությունից ուղիղ մեկ ամիս անց նրա ոտքը այտուցվեց, ապա տարօրինակ սև կետ առաջացավ։
Երեխան սկսեց բողոքել ոտքի շրջանում սուր ցավերից, ոտքն ուռեց, որից հետո տղան հոսպիտալացվեց։ Ժամանակի ընթացքում սև կետը սկսեց քայքայվել՝ վերածվելով վերքի։
Բժշիկները որոշեցին, որ երեխայի մոտ զարգանում է քաղցկեղ, այն դեպքում, երբ տղայի մայրը փորձում էր նրանց ասել, որ ոտքի վրա գոյացած վերքը նման է սարդի կծածի։
Սակայն բժիշկներն ուշադրություն չդարձրին մոր խոսքերին և ուժեղ հակաբիոտիկներով բուժում նշանակեցին։
Երկու օր անց բժիշկները որոշեցին, որ տղայի մոտ սեպսիս և փոձեցին տղային փրկել արագ վիրահատության միջոցով։ Դժբախտաբար, երեխայի օրգանիզմը չդիմացավ, տղան մահացավ։
Դատաբժշկական փորձաքննությունը պարզեց, որ տղայի մահվան պատճառը սարդի խայթոցն էր, ինչը բարդություններ էր առաջացրել։
