«Զվարթնոց» օդանավակայանում մարզիկների ու երկրպագուների հետ օլիմպիական չեմպիոն Արթուր Ալեքսանյանի վերադարձին էր սպասում արցախյան հերոս, քառօրյա մարտերում զոհված Ռոբերտ Աբաջյանի հայրը՝ Ալեքսանդր Աբաջյանը: Ռիոյում, պարգևատրման արարողության ժամանակ Արթուր Ալեքսանյանը պատվո հարթակ էր բարձրացել՝ շապիկին Ռոբերտ Աբաջյանի նկարը: Այս քայլը Աբաջյանները կրկնակի հերոսություն էին որակել, իսկ Ռոբերտի հայրը նշել էր՝ «Սպասում եմ Արթուրը վերադառնա հայրենիք, գնամ ձեռքը սեղմեմ»: Այդպես էլ եղավ՝օդանավակայանում օլիմպիականներին առաջինը դիմավորողներից մեկն էլ հենց Ալեքսանդր Աբաջյանն էր: «Անկախ»-ի հետ զրույցում Աբաջյանը նշեց, որ պարզապես այսօր չէր կարող չգալ դիմավորելու ազգի հերոսին. «Շնորհավորեցի, թուշը պաչեցի, ձեռքն էլ սեղմեցի». պատերազմի հերոսի հոր և օլիմպիական հերոսի հանդիպումն այսպես է եղել:

Ալեքսանդր Աբաջյանը, հուզմունքը զսպելով, նշում է. «Արթուրի քայլի մասին խոսք չկա: Չգիտեմ այն ինչպես գնահատել, ինչ ասել: Իրա նման տղերք թող շատ ըլնեն և մեր հայ ազգը պարծենա, հպարտանա մեր հերոսներով, մեր չեմպիոններով»:

Ռոբերտ Աբաջյանը հերոսաբար զոհվել է ապրիլին` ղարաբաղա-ադրբեջանական շփման գծում ռազմական գործողությունների ժամանակ: Մարտական հենակետում իր հետ կռվող ընկերները զոհվում են, ինքն էլ վիրավորում է ստանում, և տեսնելով, որ հակառակորդի նոր ուժեր են շարժվում հայկական դիրքերի ուղղությամբ՝ կապ է հաստատում հրամանատարական կազմի հետ, օգնական ուժեր պահանջում և պատրաստ պահելով իր մոտ մնացած վերջին նռնակը, սպասում թշնամուն: Մինչ թիկունքից օգնության կհասնեին, թշնամին մոտենում է, Ռոբերտ Աբաջյանը, վերջին նռնակով պայթեցնում է և´ իրեն, և´ հայկական դիրքեր հասած հակառակորդի զինվորներին: Արթուր Ալեքսանյանն իր քայլով աշխարհին ևս մեկ անգամ հիշեցրեց ու պատմեց այս հերոսական արարքի մասին:
