Ճարպակալմամբ տառապող մարդիկ հաճախ են բախվում շաքարախտին, սիրտ-անոթային հիվանդություններին, ոսկրերի եւ այլ խանգարումների հետ կապված խնդիրներին: The New England Journal of Medicine-ում հրապարակված 1000 հետազոտությունների թիրախային վերլուծությունը ցույց է տալիս, որ ավելորդ քաշը զգալիորեն մեծացնում է քաղցկեղի 13 տարատեսակների առաջացման վտանգը:
Վերլուծությամբ պարզվել է, որ գեր մարդկանց մոտ առավել հաճախ են առաջանում քաղցկեղի հետեւյալ տեսակները՝ ստամոքսի, լյարդի, լեղապարկի, ենթաստամոքսային գեղձի, ձվարանների, վահանաձեւ գեղձի քաղցկեղ, բազմապատիկ միելոմա եւ մենինգիոմա: Ավելի վաղ կատարված հետազոտություններով արդեն պարզվել էր ավելորդ քաշի եւ կերակրափողի, կոլորեկտալ, դաշտանադադարի ընթացքում կաթնագեղձերի քաղցկեղի հետ կապի առկայությունը, նաեւ երիկամների եւ արգանդի քաղցկեղի:
Հետազոտության հեղինակներից մեկը՝ Փոլ Գոգանը, նշել է, որ, օրինակ, Ավստրալիայում կոլորեկտալ քաղցկեղի յուրաքանչյուր 10-րդ դեպքը եւ չարորակ ուռուցքների գրեթե քառորդ մասը ավելորդ քաշն է հարուցում: Հետազոտողները նշել են, որ անհրաժեշտ է հապշտապ միջոցներ ձեռնարկել ճարպակալման համաճարակի դեմ պայքարելու համար, այլապես քաղցկեղի դեպքերն ավելի ու ավելի հաճախ կառաջանան, իսկ մահացությունը կմեծանա:
Ամերիկացի գիտնականները նախկինում հետազոտություններ են հրապարակել, որոնց արդյունքները վկայում են, որ առողջ կենսակերպը՝ ճիշտ սնվելը եւ սպորտով կանոնավոր զբաղվելը իսկապես օգնում են նվազեցնել ուռուցքային մի շարք հիվանդությունների առաջացման վտանգը: Այդ ամենը նաեւ վկայում է, որ քաշին հետեւելով եւ դիետան վերահսկելով կարելի բարելավել առողջությունը եւ երկարացնել կյանքի տեւողությունը:
