Հոգեբանները պարզել են, որ մեծ նշանակություն ունի ոչ այնքան մատանին, որքան մատը, որին այն դրված է: Այդպիսով մատանու տերը ցանկանում է շրջապատողներին հաղորդակից դարձնել ինչ-որ տեղեկության, հայտնում է Lady portal-ը:

Մատնեմատին դրված լինելն ամենատարածվածն է եւ նշանակում է  «ընտանեկան վիճակ»: Առաջին անգամ մատանին այդ մատին դնելու սովորույթը երեւան է եկել հին եգիպտացիների մոտ, որոնք հավատում էին, որ հենց մատնեմատից է սկսվում «սիրո ճանապարհը», որը միագամից սիրտ է տանում: Փարավոնների ժողովուրդը մատանիներ էր կրում ամենատարբեր մետաղներից, ապակուց եւ նույնիսկ կերամիկայից:

Ցուցամատին դրված մատանին նշանակում է իշխանություն: Այն կամային բնավորության, հպարտության եւ իշխանության ձգտման նշանն է: Աջ ձեռքին դրված «իշխանության մատանին» վկայում է շրջահայացության մասին, իսկ ձախ ձեռքին՝ ավելի շուտ մեծամտության եւ հիստերիայի հակվածության: Ցուցամատին  մատանի են կրել հայտնի տիրակալներից եւ զորահրամանտարներից շատերը՝ Կեսարը, Իվան Ահեղը. Ռիշելյեն, Հենրի VIII-ը:

Միջնամատին դրված մատանին հայտարարում է գեղեցիկի հավակնության մասին: Մարդն իր մասին հայտարարում է. «ես գեղեցիկ եմ»: Այն ամենաերկարն ու կենտրոնականն է եւ լավագույնս է ցուցադրում զարդն ու այն, թե որքան ենք ինքներս մեզ դուր գալիս: Ցուցամատի մատանու ագրեսիվ գերազանցությունը փոխարինվում է սեփական արժանապատվության եւ ներելի ինքնասիրության առավել քաղաքավարի զգացումով: Ի դեպ, մատանու քարի չափը եւս նշանակություն ունի. որքան այն մեծ եւ նկատելի է, այնքան դրա տերն ուժգին է ձգտում շրջապատողներին համոզելու իր հմայքի անդիմադրելիությունը:

Բութ մատին դրվող մատանիները հատուկ ուշադրության են արժանի, հատկապես եթե կրողը տղամարդ է: Այս մատներով, ինչպես ավտոստոպի ժամանակ, տղամարդիկ ազդարարում են՝ «ուշադրություն եմ խնդրում»: Հոգեբանների կարծիքով՝ այդ մատին դրվող մատանու տիրոջ գլխավոր ցանկությունը ցանակացած գնով ինքնահաստատվելն է, առաջին հերթին սեքսուալ առումով: Այս կապակցությամբ վերջին երկու հազար տարվա ընթացքում կարծիքը չի փոխվում: Դեռեւս հին հույները եւ հռոմեացիները կարծում էին, որ բթամատը ֆալոսի խորհրդանիշն է եւ այդ մատին իրենց տղամարդկային ուժը պաշտպանելու համար երկաթե մատանի էին կրում:

Ճկույթին դրվող մատանիների տերերը ստեղծագործող անհատներ են: Այն հաճախ է ուղեկցում դերասաններին, նկարիչներին, մոդելյերներին: Սակայն եթե նույնիսկ ձեր առաջ արվեստի աշխարհի հետ կապ չունեցող մարդ է, ճկույթի մատանին կհուշի, որ դրա տերը հետաքրքիր է եւ ունակ դուրս գալու ընդհանուր շրջանակներից:
