Մասնագիտությամբ ուսուցչուհի Իռնա Ֆիլիպսի հեղինակած, աշխարհի ամենաերկար սերիալի պրեմիերան տեղի է ունեցել 1937 թվականի հունվարի 25-ին NBC Radio-ի եթերում, այնուհետև նրա իրավունքները ձեռք է բերել CBS-ը, վերջինս այն 1952 թվականին վերածել է «Guiding Light» հեռուստասերիալի, որն էլ հետագայում «ապրել է» ավելի քան կես դար:

Ստեղծման օրվանից սերիալը 357 անգամ տարբեր մրցանակաբաշխություններում դրվել է տարատեսակ անվանակարգերում, և ստացել 98 մրցանակ, այդ թվում հեղինակավոր Daytime Emmy Awards մրցանակը: «Առաջնորդող լույս» սերիալը հայտնվել է Գինեսի ռեկորդների գրքում, որպես պատմության ամենաերկար սերիալ: Ինչի մասին կարելի է խոսել 15762 սերիաների ընթացքում, սակայն եթե այն սկսել դիտել առանց ընդմիջման, ապա դրա վրա կծախսվի 164 օր 4 ժամ և 30 րոպե: 2009 թվականի ապրիլին CBS ընկերության ղեկավարության կողմից որոշում կայացվեց, որ սերիալի ցածր հեղինակության պատճառով այն կդադարի ցուցադրվել 2009 թվականի սեպտեմբերի 18-ից
