ԱՄՆ-ում տղամարդկանց ու կանանց միջին քաշը վերջին 20 տարվա ընթացքում ավելացել Է գրեթե 7 կիլոգրամով: Այդ մասին հայտնել Է Հիվանդությունների վերահսկման եւ կանխարգելման կենտրոններ (ՀՎԿԿ) ամերիկյան կազմակերպությունը:
«Հաշվի առնելով սննդաբաժինների չափերը եւ դրանցում մեծ քանակությամբ ճարպերի պարունակությունը՝ զարմանալի չԷ, որ ամերիկացի տղամարդկանց միջին քաշը վերջին երկու տասնյամյակների ընթացքում ավելացել Է 6,8 կիլոգրամով, կանանցը՝ 7,2 կիլոգրամով»,-ասված ՀՎԿԿ-ի հրապարակած ուսումնասիրության մեջ:
Կազմակերպության գնահատումների համաձայն՝ մեծահասակ ամերիկացիները ներկայում կշռում են միջին հաշվով 88,7 կիլոգրամ, ամերիկուհիները՝ 76 կիլոգրամից փոքր-ինչ ավելի, թեեւ դեռ 1960-ական թվականներին վերջիններիս միջին վիճակագրական քաշը կազմում Էր 64 կիլոգրամ: Վերջին 20 տարվա ընթացքում ավելացել Է նաեւ երկրի պատանի բնակիչների քաշը. տղաներինը՝ 6,1 կիլոգրամով, աղջիկներինը՝ 3,3 կիլոգրամով:
