Թուրքիայի նախագահ Ռեջեփ Թայիփ Էրդողանի գլխավորությամբ իշխող «Արդարություն եւ զարգացում» կուսակցության (ԱԶԿ) առաջնորդները ցանկանում են երկրի սահմանադրությունից հանել Թուրքիայի Հնարապետության հիմնադիր Մուստաֆա Քեմալ Աթաթուրքի աշխարհիկ գաղափարախոսությունը:

Հոդվածի հեղինակները բերում են Էրդողանի գլխավոր խորհրդական Մեհմեթ Ուչումի՝ այդ առնչությամբ արած հետեւյալ հայտարարությունը.
«Գլխավոր տեսակետն այն է, որ նոր սահմանադրության մեջ որեւէ հատուկ գաղափարախոսության վրա հղում չկատարվի: Սահմանադրության նախաբանում ավելի նպատակահարմար է նշվի, որ Մուստաֆա Քեմալ Աթաթուրքը Թուրքիայի Հանրապետության հիմնադիրն է»:
Նրանք հայտնում են, որ այդ հոդվածների վերացումը կարող է հակասություն ծնել Թուրքիայում, քանի որ Աթաթուրքի աշխարհիկ պետության ժառանգությունը համարվում է թուրքական մահմեդական պետության աշխարհիկ կառուցվածքի անձեռնմխելի հիմքը:
Նրանց կարծիքով` Էրդողանն ու իշխող ԱԶԿ-ն, քաղաքականություն մտնելով իսլամիստական շարժումից, մասնակիորեն հետ են կանգնել իրենց կողմից «խեղդող եւ հակադեմոկրատական» համարվող Աթաթուրքի ժառանգությունից:
Թուրքիայի ներկայիս սահմանադրության համաձայն, պատգամավորներն ու նախագահը հավատարմության երդում են տալիս աշխարհիկությանն ու Աթաթուրքի «սկզբունքներին ու բարեփոխումներին»: Հավելյալ հոդվածներով պահանջվում է, որպեսզի կրթական համակարգը երկրի երիտասարդությանը դաստիարակի Աթաթուրքի սկզբունքներին համապատասխան: Աթաթուրքը մահացել է 1938 թվականին Ստամբուլում:
Հոդվածում նշվում է, որ Էրդողանը հետեւողական է իսլամիստական թեքումով նոր սահմանադրություն կյանքի կոչելու հարցում, որի վերջնական տարբերակը ծրագրում է խորհրդարան ներկայացնել ընթացիկ տարվա դեկտեմբերին:
«Էրդողանը համառում է հարցի հետ կապված հանրաքվե անցկացնելու հարցում, անգամ այն դեպքում, եթե չկարողանա հավաքել այն խորհրդարանով անցնելու համար պահանջվող 367 քվեները», -հայտարարել է Մեհմեթ Ուչումը` նշելով, որ կառավարությունը մտադիր է փոփոխել նաեւ Թուրքիայի ընտրական օրենքը:
