Փարիզի Սեն Դենի արվարձանի «Ստադ դեը Ֆրանս» ստադիոնում տեղի ունեցած հանդիսավոր արարողությամբ մեկնարկեց ֆուտբոլի Եվրոպայի առաջնությունը: Բացման խաղում մրցում են Ֆրանսիայի եւ Ռումինիայի հավաքականները, որոնք ընդգրկված են A խմբում:
Առաջին անգամ այս մրցաշարին կմասնակցի 24 հավաքական: Մասնակիցների թվի զգալի մեծացման շնորհիվ, առաջին անգամ Եվրոպայի չեմպիոնի կոչման համար կպայքարեն Իսլանդիան, Հյուսիսային Իռլանդիան, Սլովակիան, Ուելսն ու Ալբանիան:
Ֆավորիտներն են կազմակերպիչ Ֆրանսիան, աշխարհի չեմպիոն Գերմանիան, Եվրոպայի չեմպիոն Իսպանիան, նաեւ Անգլիան, Բելգիան, Պորտուգալիան եւ Իտալիան: Առաջին անգամ կլինի 1/8 եզրափակիչ: Նախկինում փլեյ-օֆֆը սկսվում էր քառորդ եզրափակիչից:
Փարիզյան ահաբեկչություններից հետո Եվրո-2016-ի կազմակերպիչների համար առաջին տեղում անվտանգության խնդիրն է:
Մրցաշարի մասնակիցների, երկրպագուների անվտանգությունն ու ընդհանուր հասարակական կարգը մեկ ամիս կապահովի մոտ 100 հազար ոստիկան, հատուկ ծառայությունների աշխատակիցներ եւ զինվորականներ: Անվտանգության ծախսերը հասել են 45 միլիոն եվրոյի: Մեկ ամսում Ֆրանսիա կայցելի մոտ 2.5 միլիոն ֆուտբոլասեր:
Կազմակերպիչներն իրավունք են վերապահել ֆուտբոլիստների եւ երկրպագուների կյանքին հնարավոր ամենաչնչին վտանգի դեպքում դադարեցնել հանդիպումները: Լրացուցիչ գլխացավանք կդառնան Ֆրանսիայի երկաթուղային եւ օդային տրանսպորտի աշխատակիցների գործադուլները, որոնք ուղղված են աշխատանքային շաբաթը 35 ժամից 46 ժամ դարձնելու դեմ:
Չեմպիոնը հայտնի կդառնա հուլիսի 10-ին կայանալիք եզրափակիչում:
