Մոտակա օրերին գիշերային երկինքը հարուստ կլինի «ընկնող աստղերով»

Պերսեիդների ասուպային հոսքն առավել վառ տեսանելի կլինի օգոստոսի 12-13-ին գիշերային երկնակամարում: Հուլիսի 28-ից մեկնարկած և մինչև օգոստոսի 22-ը տևացող ասուպային անձրևն այդ օրերին առավել վառ կդիտվի նորալուսնի շ նորհիվ:
Պերսեիդների ասուպային հոսքի կենտրոնը գտնվում է Պերսեոս համաստեղության ուղղությամբ և աստղագիտության մեջ կոչվում է ասուպային հոսքի ռադիանտ: Առավելագույն փուլի ժամանակ ասուպների թիվը հասնում է ժամում 60-100-ի, և սա տարվա ընթացքում ամենաակտիվ հոսքերից մեկն է: Պերսեիդները սպիտակ արագընթաց ասուպներ են, որոնք նկատելի հետքեր են թողնում:
Ասուպային հոսքերն առաջանում են, երբ Երկիրը' Արեգակի շուրջն իր ուղեծրով շարժվելով հանդիպում է երկնաքարերի խմբի, և վերջիններս' թափանցելով Երկրի մթնոլորտ, այրվում են և «ընկնող աստղեր» հիշեցնող հետքեր թողնում, որոնք կարող են մինչև մի քանի վայրկյան երևալ երկնակամարի վրա: Այս դեպքում հոսքը պայմանավորող երկնաքարերի խումբն առաջացրել է Սվիֆթ-Թատլի գիսավորը:Սովորաբար երկնաքարերը շատ փոքր են (ավազահատիկների և մանր քարերի չափերի), և մի քանի հարյուր կմ/վրկ արագություններով մտնելով մթնոլորտ նրանք ամբողջովին այրվում են' չհասնելով Երկրի մակե րևույթին, և միայն հազվագյուտ դեպքերում է որևէ երկնաքար ընկնում Երկրի վրա, ինչը կարող է տեղական աղետ առաջացնել:
Ընդհանրապես ասուպներ կարող են դիտվել ամեն օր, սակայն ասուպային հոսքերի օրերին դրանց թիվը կտրուկ ավելանում է, ինչպես նաև հոսքի բոլոր ասուպները որպես կանոն «ելնում» են երկնքի որոշակի տիրույթից' ռադիանտից: Երբեմն դիտվում են առանձնահատուկ ինտենսիվ հոսքեր, որոնք կոչվում են ասուպային (աստղային) անձրևներ, ասուպային բռնկումներ, ասուպային փոթորիկներ կամ «աստղաթափեր», երբ 1 ժամում կարող են դիտվել 1000-ից ավելի ասուպներ: Տարվա ընթացքում դիտվում է շուրջ 20 ասուպային հոսք, որոնցից հատկապես ինտենսիվ են Քվադրանտիդները, Լեոնիդները և Գեմինիդները:
