Քաղցկեղով ամեն երրորդ հիվանդը առողջ կլիներ, եթե հետեւեր առողջ կենսակերպի մի քանի պարզագույն կանոնի, պնդում է պրոֆեսոր Սանչիա Արանդան   Cancer Council Australia-ից: Իրականում քաղցկեղի դեպքերի գրեթե կեսը կանխարգելելի է. շատ մարդկանց մոտ քաղցկեղը զարգանում է նրանց իսկ գործողությունների եւ որոշումների հետեւանքով եւ այն չէր լինի, եթե նրանք ուրիշ կերպ ապրեին:

Ծխելը, ալկոհոլային խմիչքները չարաշահելը եւ նստակյաց կյանքը ռիսկի գործոնների թվում են, որոնք հանգեցնում են ծանրագույն հիվանդությունների զարգացման:

ԱՄՆ-ում վերջերս 130 000 մարդու մասնակցությամբ հետազոտությունները ցույց են տվել, որ ալկոհոլային խմիչքները չափավոր օգտագործող եւ մարմնի առողջ զանգված ունեցող մարդիկ  40 տոկոսով ավելի հազվադեպ են բախվում քաղցկեղի: Journal of American Medical Association ամսագրի տվյալներով, քաղցկեղից մահերի գրեթե կեսը չէր լինի, եթե մարդիկ հետեւեին ոսկե կանոնների: Մասնավորապես.

2. առողջ սնունդ

3. մարմնի զանգվածի առողջ ինդեքսի պահպանում (18,5-ից մինչեւ 25)

4. արեւային լոգանքների ընդունման վերահսկողություն

5. ալկոհոլային ըմպելիքների սահմանափակ օգտագործում (օրական երկու չափաբաժնից ոչ ավելի)

6. ֆիզիկական ծանրաբեռնվածություններ (օրական 30 րոպե, շաբաթը 6 օր)

7. բժիշկների մոտ կանոնավոր ստուգումներ տարբեր տեսակի կոշտացումների, խալերի, հազի ի հայտ գալու, քաշի անհասկանալի կորստի, արյունահոսության եւ փքվածության դեպքում: 

Գենետիկայից եւ անառողջ կենսակերպից բացի, չարորակ նորագոյացությունների զարգացման կարող են հանգեցնել նաեւ աշխատանքի ծանր պայմանները քիմիկատների մշտական ազդեցության կամ ճառագայթման տեսքով:  Ռիսկի լրջագույն գործոններից մեկն է համարվում ճարպակալումը, որը օրգանիզմին ստիպում է ավելի շատ հորմոններ արտադրել, որոնք կայունացնում են քաղցկեղային բջիջների աճը:
