Թուրքիան 3000 թվականից շուտ չի դառնա Եվրամիության անդամ, եթե պահպանվեն 28 անդամ ունեցող այդ հանրակցությանը անդամակցելու բանակցությունների ներկայիս տեմպերը։
«Հեռանկարում ոչինչ չի խոսում այն մասին, որ Թուրքիան ԵՄ անդամ դառնա մոտ ժամանակներս, - ասել է նա ITV հեռուստաընկերությանը տված հարցազրույցում։- Նրանք հայտը ներկայացրել են 1987 թվականին։ Եվ առաջընթացի ներկայիս արագության պահպանման դեպքում, նրանք, հնարավոր է, միացման պահին կհասնեն մոտավորապես 3000 թվականին, եթե հավատանք ամենավերջին կանխատեսումներին»։
Քեմերոնի հայտարարությունները հնչել են երկրի՝ ԵՄ անդամակցության հարցով հունիսի 23-ին նախատեսված հանրաքվեի քարոզչական արշավի հենց թեժ պահին։ Այդպիսով վարչապետը, ինքը Բրյուսելի հետ ներկայիս հարաբերությունների պահպանման կողմնակից լինելով, մեկնաբանել է Պահպանողական կուսակցությունից գործընկեր Փենի Մորդոնտի խոսքերը. նա կառավարությունում զբաղեցնում է պաշտպանության փոխնախարի պաշտոնը։ Եվրովատատեսների ճամբարը ներկայացնող քաղաքական գործիչն ավելի վաղ ասել էր, որ Թուրքիան ԵՄ անդամ կդառնա մոտակա 8 տարում և Մեծ Բրիտանիան չի կարող ոչինչ ա նել դրան խանգարելու համար։
«ԵՄ-ից դուրս գալու արշավի ներկայացուցիչները իրենց հայտարարություններով մոլորության մեջ են գցում»,- ասել է Քեմերոնը՝ Մորդոնտի բառերը անվանելով «արմատապես սխալ»։ «Մեծ Բրիտանիան, ինչպես և ԵՄ ցանկացած այլ երկիր, ունի այլ երկրի միանալու հարցում ունի արգելքի իրավունք»,- վկայակոչելով ՏԱՍՍ-ը, ասել է ՄԲ վարչապետը։
Ավելի վաղ Քեմերոնը վատատեսորեն էր արտահայտվել ԵՄ տարածք Թուրքիայի քաղաքացիների անայցագիր մուտքի վերաբերյալ՝ հայտարարելով, որ Լոնդոնը չի աջակցի այդպիսի քայլին, և քանի որ Մեծ Բրիատանիան Շենգենի գոտուց դուրս է և ինքնուրույն է իրականացնում հսկողությունը սահմանին, Թուրքիային չի առաջարկի անայցագիր ռեժիմ։
