Միացյալ Նահանգները մտահոգված է Թուրքիայի մեջլիսում սահմանադրական փոփոխությունների առաջարկի ընդունման առնչությամբ, որը նախատեսում է վերացնել խորհրդարանի ավելի քան 100 պատգամավորների անձեռնմխելիությունը: Ինչպես հաղորդում է «Արմենպրես»-ը` վկայակոչելով ԱՄՆ պետդեպարտամենտի պաշտոնական կայքը, այս մասին հայտարարություն է տարածել ԱՄՆ պետդեպարտամենտի խոսնակի տեղակալ Մարկ Թոները:
«Ժողովրդավարական հասարակություններում ընդհանուր սկզբունք է օրենքի առաջ բոլորի հավասարությունը: Այդուհանդերձ, մենք խորապես համոզված ենք, որ քաղաքական խոսքի ազատությունը, անգամ այն խոսքի, որը շատերը կարող են հակասական և ոչ ճիշտ համարել, պետք է պաշտպանված լինի բոլորի համար: Սա հատկապես կարևոր է, երբ խոսքը վերաբերում է երկրի քաղաքացիների կողմից ընտրված ներկայացուցիչներին»,- ասել է Թոները: Նա ընդգծել է, որ իրենք ուշի ուշով հետևում են այս փոփոխության հետ կապված զարգացումներին:
«Եթե այս փոփոխությունը պատճառ դառնա քաղաքական քննարկումների տարածքի նեղացման, ապա այն կնվազեցնի Թուրքիայի ժողովրդավարության որակը»,- ասվում է հայտարարության վերջում:
