Ապրիլի սկզբին Ադրբեջանի կողմից Արցախի դեմ ռազմական ագրեսիայի նպատակն էր գրավել կենսական նշանակության տարածքներ և բանակցային գործընթացում պարտադրել իր պայմանները:
Մայիսի 6-ին լրագրողների հետ հանդիպմանը նման կարծիք հայտնեց ԱԺ ՀՀԿ խմբակցության պատգամավոր Սամվել Նիկոյանը: «Ադրբեջանը ցանկանում էր շատ արագ գրավել անհրաժեշտ քանակի տարածքներ ու հասնել Ստեփանակերտ: Դրա մասին են վկայում այն փաստաթղթերը, որոնք գտնվում են մերոնց ձեռքին: Նրանք ցանկանում էին գրավել իրենց համար կենսական տարածքներ, որպեսզի կարողանային բանակցային գործընթացում պարտադրել իրենց պայմանները: Միջազգային միջնորդ կազմակերպությունները, համանախագահները, նրանց լղոզված հայտարարությունները, ըստ էության, Ադրբեջանին թույլ տվեցին իրականացնել այն, ինչ ցանկանում էր: Սակայն Ադրբեջանը չկարողացավ լուծել այն խնդիրը, որի համար դիմեց նման ագրեսիայի»,- «Արմենպրես»-ի հաղորդմամբ՝ նշեց Նիկոյանը:
Նիկոյանն այն կարծիքին է, որ քառօրյա պատերազմից հետո բոլորովին նոր իրավիճակ է առաջացել: Նրա խոսքով՝ հնարավոր է, որ ռազմական գործողությունների առաջին օրերին միջնորդ երկրներից շատերը սկսել են մտածել, որ մի քանի օրից Հայաստանն օգնության խնդրանքով դիմելու է իրենց: «Բայց հայկական բանակը կարողացավ արժանի հակահարված տալ հակառակորդին և հետ շպրտել նրան: Առաջին հայացքից մեր զինվորներն անում էին շատ պարզ բան՝ պաշտպանում էին իրենց հայրենիքը, սակայն իրականում նրանք աշխարհաքաղաքական և ռազմաքաղաքական կարևոր խնդիրներ են լուծել: Մեր զինվորները կարողացել են շատ պետությունների խաղաքարտերը խառնել, իսկ հայկական կողմին հնարավորություն են ընձեռել ավելի կոշտ դիրքորոշում որդեգրել»,- նշեց պատգամավորը:
Անդրադառնալով բանակցությունների վերսկսման հնարավորությանը՝ Սամվել Նիկոյանն ընդգծեց, որ անիմաստ է խոսել բանակցային գործընթացի մասին, երբ զուգահեռաբար ռազմական գործողություններ են ընթանալու: «Այն վստահության առաջարկները, որ հայկական կողմն առաջ է քաշել բանակցությունները վերսկսելու համար, արդարացված են, և այդ ուղղությամբ աշխատանքներ տարվում են: Մենք բանակցությունների կողմնակից ենք, սակայն բանակցությունների մասին խոսելու համար վստահության երաշխիքներ են հարկավոր»,-ասաց նա:
Խոսելով Հայաստանի կողմից ԼՂ անկախության ճանաչման նպատակահարմարության մասին՝ պատգամավորը նկատեց, որ դա կլինի այն պահին, երբ Ադրբեջանը հերթական անգամ ռազմական ագրեսիայի կդիմի:
