Լեռնային Ղարաբաղի հակամարտության գոտում ստեղծված իրավիճակը քննարկվել է Բաքվում Ադրբեջանի նախագահ Իլհամ Ալիևի և Ռուսաստանի Դաշնության արտաքին գործերի նախարար Սերգեյ Լավրովի միջև տեղի ունեցած հանդիպման ընթացքում: Ինչպես հաղորդում է«Արմենպրես»-ը` վկայակոչելով ՏԱՍՍ-ը, Լավրովը հանդիպմանը շեշտել է, որ Ռուսաստանը շարունակելու է աջակցել Լեռնային Ղարաբաղում կրակի դադա րեցման համաձայնության պահպանմանը:
«Մենք նախագահի, վարչապետի, ԱԳՆ-ի, Պաշտպանության նախարարության, Գլխավոր շտաբի մակարդակներում ձեռնարկել ենք անհրաժեշտ միջոցները, որպեսզի կողմերը կարողանան պայմանավորվածության հասնել կրակի դադարեցման հարցում: Պատրաստ ենք աջակցել, որպեսզի այս պայմանավորվածությունները չխախտվեն, կարևորն իրավիճակի հանդարտեցումն է»,- նշել է ՌԴ ԱԳ նախարարը:
Ապրիլի 1-ի լույս 2-ի գիշերը և առավոտյան Ադրբեջանը ղարաբաղա-ադրբեջանական հակամարտ զորքերի շփման գծի ողջ երկայնքով ձեռնարկել է լայնածավալ նախահարձակ գործողություններ, որոնց ընթացքում հրթիռահրետանային արկակոծման ենենթարկվել ոչ միայն հայկական զինուժի պաշտպանական դիրքերը, այլև խաղաղ բնակավայÖերը: Ադրբեջանական զինուժիկողմից ապրիլի 2-ին ժամը 08:30-ի սահմաններում Մարտունու պաշտպանական ուղղությամբ ՄՄ-21 («Գրադ») կայանքիցիրականացված հրթիռահրետակոծության հետևանքով սպանվել է 12-ամյա Վաղինակ Թաթուլի Գրիգորյանը, ևս երկու երեխավիրավորվել են: Ավելի ուշ Ստեփանակերտի հիվանդանոց են տեղափոխվել ևս չորս վիրավոր քաղաքացիական անձինք: Իսկապրիլի 3-ին հայտնի դարձավ, որ Թալիշում նախօրեին ադրբեջանցիները գազանաբար գնդակահարել, խոշտանգել ու խեղել եներեք խաղաղ բնակիչների: Հայկական կողմը 32 կորուստ ունի, 25 զինծառայող անհայտ կորած է, 121 մարդ` վիրավոր: Հինգ մարդ էլ, այդ թվում` ՀՀ Սյունիքի մարզի գյուղական երկու համայնքի ղեկավար, զոհվել է ավտոբուսի ռմբահարու մից` Մարտակերտի ճանապարհին: Լեռնային Ղարաբաղի Պաշտպանության բանակի ժամանակին և արհեստավարժ գործողությունների շնորհիվ հնարավոր է եղել իրավիճակը վերցնել վերահսկողության տակ և զգալի կորուստներ պատճառել հակառակորդին. ապրիլի 1-5-ըտեղի ունեցած մարտական գործողությունների ընթացքում ադրբեջանական զինուժը տվել է ավելի քան 300 կորուստ (որոշ տեղեկություններով` զոհերի ու վիրավորների թիվը նշվում է 2000), ոչնչացվել է 24 տանկ, 3 հետևակի մարտական մեքենա, 1ինժեներական տեխնիկա, 2 ուղղաթիռ, 7 անօդաչու սարք, 1ՄՄ 21ռեակտիվ հրետանու մարտական մեքենա:
Ապրիլի 5-ին՝ ժամը 12:00-ին, Լեռնային Ղարաբաղի և Ադրբեջանի հակամարտ զորքերի շփման գծում երկկողմ համաձայնությամբդադարեցվել է կրակը:
