Շփման գծում ստեղծված իրավիճակն է մեկնաբանել Քարնեգի հիմնադրամի աշխատակից Թոմաս դե Վաալը, որը մեր հասարակությանը հայտնի է Ղարաբաղյան պատերազմի մասին իր հեղինակած «Սև այգի» գրքով:
Չնայած վերջինիս կողմից օգտագործված են որոշակի կողմնակալ և չեզոք վերլուծաբանին ոչ հարիր արտահայտություններ, այնուամենայնիվ զուտ ստեղծված լարվածության առումով դե Վաալի կարծիքը հետաքրքիր է.
«Սա սարսափելի, շատ վատ նախադեպ է: Նույնիսկ նախադեպ էլ չէ: Բախումներ են սկսվել: Նմանվում է պատերազմի: Հրադադարը կոպտորեն խախտվել է: Խնդիրն այն է, որ շփման գիծը այս պահին այն աստիճան մարտական վիճակի մեջ է գտնվում, երկու կողմից էլ օգտագործվում է այնպիսի ծանր տեխնիկա, ինքնաթիռներ, ուղղաթիռներ, անօդաչու ինքնաթիռներ, որ չափազանց կարճ ժամանակամիջոցում կարող են ավերածություններ տեղի ունենալ:
Բացի այդ նաև գարուն է: Հրադադարը սովորաբար խախտվում է գարնանը կամ ամռանը:
Թերահավատ եմ այն բանում, որ Ռուսաստանը ուժ կգործադրի շփման գծում: Բայց ուշագրավ է այն, որ նախագահը ԱՄՆ-ում էր և հանկարծակի գործողություններ են սկսվում: Կրեմլն էլ խաղաղության կոչ է անում: Բայց այս խնդրում պետք է մի փոքր զգուշավոր լինենք: Թե Հայաստանի և թե Ադրբեջանի բանակները չափազանց ուժեղ են, և Մոսկվայի որևէ հրաման նրանց դուր չի գա»
