 Ադրբեջանական կողմը շփման գծում մարտական գործողություններն օգտագործում է որպես ճնշման միջոց կամ շանտաժ: Ռուս քաղաքագետ Սերգեյ Մարկեդոնովի կարծիքով` Ադրբեջանն իր այս քայլով փորձարկում է հայկական կողմի կարողությունն ու միջազգային հանրության ուշադրությունը: «Արմենպրես»-ի հետ հարցազրույցում նա նշեց, որ նմանատիպ սրացումները տեղի են ունենում միջազգային դիվանագիտական ֆորումներից կամ առաջ, կամ հետո, կամ էլ դրանց զուգընթաց: «Վաշինգտոնում հիմա միջուկային անվտանգության գագաթնաժողով է, հավանաբար, դիվանագիտական բանակցություններ են ընթանում, փորձում են ինչ-որ որոշումներ կայացնել, իսկ հայ-ադրբեջանական սահմանում այդ ընթացքում վիճակը թեժանում է»,- նկատեց Մարկեդոնովը:

Նրա համոզմամբ՝ վերջին 2-3 տարիների ընթացքում կայացած գրեթե բոլոր գագաթնաժողովերի ընթացքում նկատվել է հակամարտության թեժացում: «Մինսկի խումբը պետք է անցնի շատ ավելի կոշտ հայտարարությունների: Հարկավոր է ձեռնարկել միջադեպերի զսպման իրական մեխանիզմներ»,- ընդգծեց Մարկեդոնովը՝ հավելելով, որ հակառակ դեպքում ռազմական գործողություները կարող են վերաճել առավել լայնամասշտաբ հակամարտության: Ըստ նրա՝ այս տեսակ էսկալացիան վտանգավոր է, քանի որ ընթացքում ձեռք է բերում սեփական տրամաբանությունը. հարված հասցնելով, կամ պատասխան հարված տալով տրամաբանությունը դադարում է դիվանագիտական լինելուց, այլ դառնում է զուտ մարտական:

Այն հարցին, թե ինչպե՞ս դրան պետք է արձագանքի միջազգային հանրությունը, Մարկեդոնովը պատասխանեց, որ միջազգային հանրությունը խիստ վերացական հասկացություն է, և յուրաքանչյուրն ունի իր հետաքրքրությունները: Սակայն ըստ նրա՝ Ղարաբաղյան կոնֆլիկտը տարբերվում է Դոնբասից, Աբխազիայից կամ Հյուսիսային Օսիայից նրանով, որ Ռուսաստանի և Արևմուտքի հայացքները այս դեպքում քիչ թե շատ համընկնում են: «Հիմա ամենակարևորը շփման գծում միջնորդող մարտական շփումները նվազեցնելն է, որպեսզի դիվանագետները կարողանան անցնել գործի»,- ավելացրեց մասնագետը:
