«80-ականների առաջին կեսին ես աշխատում էի գյուղում որպես երգի ուսուցիչ, մեկ ուրիշ տեղ սոլֆեջիո էր դասավանդում, մի տեղ երեխաներին էի նվագակցում, սկսել էի նաև հեռուստատեսությունում հաղորդումներ վարել և այլն: Հասկանալի է, որ նման տեղերում աշխատավարձերը չնչին են, և դրանց գումարելին չափազանց համեստ էր: Բոլոր կողմերից ես լսում էի՝ «ինչ տղամարդ ես, որ չես կարողանում նորմալ փող առնես»: Դա ասվում էր և՛ չարությամբ, և՛ արհամարհանքով, և՛ միանգամայն բարյացակամորեն։

«Նորմալ փող» կարելի էր առնել կաշառքով, գողանալով, «լևի» գործեր անելով և այլն: Ոչ մի աշխատավարձ «նորմալ փող» չէր ենթադրում՝ փողոցում փայտիկը ձեռքը կանգնած ցմփոր «գաիշնիկը» մի քանի անգամ ավելի շատ էր «վաստակում», բան համալսարանի պրոֆեսորը, և այդ գաիշնիկին, ինչպես նաև մնացած «լավ փող առնողներին» ոչ ոք չէր դատապարտում՝ «դե, մարդ են, տուն են պահում»: Այսօր մարդիկ մոռացել են, իսկ երիտասարդները չգիտեն, թե ինչպիսին էր իրական վիճակը, և անցյալի նկատմամբ ինչ-որ պատրանքներ ունեն, թե իբր երբևէ եղել է «արդարություն» կամ՝ «իշխանությունը պատկանել է ժողովրդին»: Այնինչ կյանքից բողոքողներն այն ժամանակ նույնքան էին, որքան հիմա. սովորաբար քիչ գողացողները բողոքում են նրանցից, ովքեր շատ են գողանում:
