Ճապոնիան վճռական բողոք է հայտնել ԱՄՆ-ին Օկինավայում տեղի բնակչուհու սպանությունից հետո, որում կասկածվում է ամերիկացի ծովային հետևակային, ասվում է Ճապոնիայի ԱԳՆ-ի հաղորդագրության մեջ։

Հոկտեմբերի 4-ին Ճապոնիայի արտաքին գործերի փոխնախարար Քենյու Ֆունակոսին հեռախոսով կապ է հաստատել Տոկիոյում ԱՄՆ դեսպան Ջորջ Գլասի հետ և պահանջել ամերիկյան կողմից լիարժեք համագործակցություն հետաքննության շրջանակում, ԱՄՆ զինծառայողների շրջանում կարգապահության խստացում և ապագայում նման միջադեպերը կանխելու միջոցների ընդունում։ Գլասը խորը ափսոսանք է հայտնել և հայտարարել, որ ԱՄՆ-ն լիովին կհամագործակցի ճապոնական իշխանությունների հետ։

Ճապոնիայի վարչապետ Սանաե Տակաիչին նույնպես տեղի ունեցածը բնութագրել է որպես ծայրահեղ դաժան հանցագործություն և հայտարարել ԱՄՆ կառավարության հասցեին վճռական բողոքի մասին։ Նա պահանջել է հետաքննությանը առավելագույն աջակցություն և նման դեպքերը բացառելու համար լրացուցիչ միջոցների ընդունում։

Սպանության մեջ կասկածվում է 20-ամյա ամերիկացի ծովային հետևակային Դևին Բալարդը, որը ծառայում է ԱՄՆ ծովային հետևակի III էքսպեդիցիոն կորպուսի կազմում, հաղորդում է Asahi հեռուստաալիքը։

Ճապոնական ոստիկանության տվյալներով, հոկտեմբերի 3-ի առավոտյան Նահայում գտնվող հյուրանոցում հայտնաբերվել է 39-ամյա Աննա Յագիի դին։ Քննությունը կարծում է, որ կինը սպանվել է, իսկ նրա դրամապանակն ու ուսապարկը գողացվել են։ Բալարդը հերքում է մեղադրանքները։

Միջադեպը տեղի է ունեցել Օկինավայի բնակիչների՝ ամերիկյան զինվորականների ներկայությունից երկարամյա դժգոհության ֆոնին։ Կղզում տեղակայված է Ճապոնիայում գտնվող ԱՄՆ ծովային հետևակի մոտ 18 հազար զինծառայողների մեծ մասը։ Ամերիկացի զինծառայողների մասնակցությամբ հանցագործություններն ու այլ միջադեպերը բազմիցս դարձել են տեղական բնակչության բողոքների պատճառ։

Նոր գործը կարող է լրացուցիչ բարդացնել ամերիկացի զինծառայողների մի մասին Ֆուտեմմա բազայից դեպի ավելի քիչ խիտ բնակեցված Հենոկո բազա տեղափոխելու Տոկիոյի ծրագրերը։ Ճապոնիայի և ԱՄՆ-ի իշխանությունները Օկինավայում ռազմական ներկայությունը կարևոր են համարում տարածաշրջանային անվտանգության համար, սակայն կղզու շատ բնակիչներ դեմ են ամերիկյան զորքերի հետագա տեղակայմանը։
