«Սակայն Ուկրաինայի խաղաղ բնակիչների վրա այս բարբարոսական հարձակումները պետք է դադարեցվեն»,- հայտարարել է Մերցը՝ դիմելով Պուտինին։
Ավելի վաղ հայտնի էր դարձել, որ Գերմանիայի կանցլեր Մերցը Կիև է ժամանել ոչ պաշտոնական այցով։
«Ես այսօր Կիև եմ եկել, քանի որ Ուկրաինան մեր աջակցության կարիքն ունի առաջիկա շաբաթների ընթացքում։ Եթե Ռուսաստանին չկանգնեցնենք, նրա ռազմական մեքենան շուտով կշրջվի մեր դեմ։ Շուտով մեր ժողովուրդը կբախվի պատերազմի հինգերորդ ձմռանը»,-նշել էր նա։
