Միացյալ Նահանգները չի բանակցում Իրանի հետ, տեղեկացրել է ԱՄՆ նախագահ Դոնալդ Թրամփը՝ ընդգծելով, որ Վաշինգտոնը կենտրոնացած է Թեհրանին տնտեսապես պատժելու վրա՝ խոստանալով նաև պատժամիջոցներ կիրառել Իսլամական Հանրապետության հետ տնտեսական կապեր պահպանող երկրների նկատմամբ:

«Նրանց հետ խոսելու ցանկություն չունենք։ Չենք պատրաստվում հանդիպել», – լրագրողներին հայտնել է նախագահը։

Հարցին՝ կպատժի՞ Ռուսաստանին, Իրանի հետ տնտեսական համագործակցությունը շարունակելու համար, Թրամփը պատասխանել է․ «Դա կախված է իրավիճակից: Մինչև հիմա, կարծում եմ, Ռուսաստանն իրեն բավականին լավ է դրսևորել Հորմուզի նեղուցի հարցում, և պետք է հասկանալ՝ նրանց յուրաքանչյուր քայլին մենք պատասխան ունենք»:

Չինաստանի մասով Սպիտակ տան ղեկավարն ասել է․ «Ո՞վ ասաց [որ Չինաստանի դեմ պատժամիջոցներ] չեմ կիրառի: Դուք չգիտեք՝ անո՞ւմ եմ, թե՞ ոչ։ Պարտադիր չէ, որ ամեն ինչ հայտարարեմ, այդպես չէ՞»։

Ավելի վաղ, Սպիտակ տան մամուլի քարտուղար Քերոլայն Լևվիթը հայտարարել էր, որ Իրանի դեմ ամերիկյան տնտեսական արշավը կշարունակվի այնքան ժամանակ, քանի դեռ Իրանը չի որոշել բովանդակալից բանակցություններ վարել:

«Այժմ ոչ մի բանակցություն չի ընթանում, և սա կշարունակվի այնքան ժամանակ, քանի դեռ նախագահը չի զգացել, որ նրանք պատրաստ են բովանդակալից երկխոսության… Նա, իհարկե, շարունակում է սեղանին պահել բոլոր հնարավոր տարբերակները», – ասել էր Լևվիթը։

Շաբաթասկզբին ԱՄՆ ֆինանսների նախարար Սքոթ Բեսենթը հայտարարեց Թեհրանի նկատմամբ ճնշումն ուժեղացնելու նոր նախաձեռնության մասին՝ նշելով, որ Միացյալ Նահանգները «տնտեսական գրոհ է սկսում աշխարհով մեկ Իրանի ֆինանսական կապերի դեմ»։

Իրանի դեմ ԱՄՆ նոր պատժամիջոցները «հերթական անգամ կձախողվեն», քանզի Թեհրանը կանխատեսել էր, որ ԱՄՆ-ն նման քայլի կգնա և պատրաստվել էր այս սցենարին, ի պատասխան հայտարարել էր Իրանի էկոնոմիկայի նախարար Ալի Մադանիզադեհը:
