2000 թվականից սկսած՝ փետրվարի 21-ին նշվում է Մայրենի լեզվի օր: Տոնը հռչակել է ՅՈՒՆԵՍԿՕ-ի գլխավոր կոնֆերանսը: Լեզվաբան, հայերենագետ Դավիթ Գյուրջինյանի խոսքով՝ հազարամյակների պատմություն ունեցող մեր լեզվի առաջ 21-րդ դարը նոր խնդիրներ է դրել:
Past.am-ի հետ զրույցում պարոն Գյուրջինյանն առանձնացնում է դրանցից երեքը: «Առաջին` հայախոսության ծավալների պահպանում և ընդլայնում: Օրավուր աճող զարհուրելի արտագաղթի հետևանքով տասնյակ հազարավոր հայեր հեռանում են հայրենիքից, հայախոս միջավայրից: Հատկապես Ռուսաստան, Ուկրաինա, Բելառուս մեկնողների մանկահասակ զավակները շատ շուտով լեզվական խնդիրներ են ունենում, քանի որ չկան (կամ գրեթե չկան) հայկական դպրոցներ, ծնողներն էլ նախանձախնդիր չեն հայերեն սովորեցնելու հարցում: Տեղի հասարակության հեշտությամբ սերտաճելու նպատակով հայ երեխաները յուրացնում են օտար լեզուն, նրանց հայերենը տկարանում է կամ, որ ահավոր է, մոռացվում: Պատկերը շատ տարբեր չէ եվրոպական երկրներում և Ամերիկայում: Ահա մեկ լրջագույն խնդիր, որը լուծելուն պիտի լծվեն Հայաստանի Հանրապետությունը, ազգային և համազգային կառույցները: Երկրորդ` հայագրության պահպանում: Չարիք է դարձել լատինատառ, ռուսատառ և խառնատառ հայերեն գրությունը համացանցում: Այլատառ են գրում տասնյակ հազարավոր հայաստանցի պատանիներ և երիտասարդներ… Շատ-շատերը: Սփյուռքի մեր հայրենակիցների մեջ էլ նրանք շատ են: Խնդիրը, ըստ էության, վաղուց տեխնիկական չէ (ավելի ու ավելի քիչ է տեխնիկական), այլ դա արվում է սովորույթի ուժով, հոգեբանական ազդակներ էլ կան, բայց դա ավելի շուտ ազգային արժանապատվության պակասի կամ բացակայության դրսևորում է: Երրորդ` հայերենի ուսուցում: Հայերենի ուսուցման հարցը երկու երես ունի: Նախ հայերենի ուսուցումը դպրոցներում և այլ կրթական հաստատություններում, որտեղ 7-րդ դասարանից սկսած աշակերտներին քերականախեղդ ենք անում` իրականում կենդանի, կյանքի տարբեր ոլորտներում գործածվող հայերեն չուսուցանելով, խոսքային պատշաճ հմտություններ և կարողություններ չձևավորելով: Հայոց լեզվի դպրոցական ուսուցումը կարծես ծառայում է տխրահռչակ շտեմարաններով թելադրված քննություններին »,- ընդգծում է մեր զրուցակիցն ու հավելում, որ հսկայական անելիքներ կան հայոց լեզուն օտարախոսներին (նրանք հայեր են և այլազգիներ) մատուցելու, դասավանդելու ուղղությամբ:
