Կուրիլյան կղզիների շուրջ Ճապոնիայի դիվանագիտական ակտիվությունը որևէ արդյունքի չի հանգեցնի։ Այս մասին հայտարարել է ՌԴ ԱԳ նախարարի տեղակալ Ալեքսանդր Գրուշկոն՝ մեկնաբանելով Պուտինի՝ Իտուրուպ կղզի կատարած այցից հետո Ռուսաստանի դեսպանին Ճապոնիայի ԱԳՆ կանչելը։

«Ռուսական հողը կմնա ռուսական հող՝ լիովին համապատասխան միջազգային իրավունքին և Երկրորդ համաշխարհային պատերազմի արդյունքներով ընդունված որոշումներին», - լրագրողներին ասել է նա՝ «Արկտիկա՝ տարածաշրջաններ» IV համաժողովի շրջանակում։

Ավելի վաղ այսօր Պուտինի՝ Հարավային Կուրիլյան կղզիներից Իտուրուպ կատարած այցի հետ Ճապոնիայի ԱԳՆ-ն Մոսկվային բողոք էր ներկայացրել։

Ճապոնիայի վարչապետ Սանաե Տակաիչին էլ իր հերթին հայտարարել է, որ «հյուսիսային տարածքները պատմականորեն և իրավաբանորեն երկրի անբաժանելի մասն են և Ռուսաստանի առաջնորդի այցը անհամատեղելի է հյուսիսային տարածքների նկատմամբ Ճապոնիայի հետևողական դիրքորոշման հետ»։ Տակաիչին ընդգծել է, որ Մոսկվայի և Տոկիոյի հարաբերությունները ներկայում գտնվում են «չափազանց բարդ իրավիճակում»։

Ճապոնական լրատվամիջոցների հաղորդմամբ՝ Պուտինի այցի ֆոնին Ճապոնիայի իշխանությունները որոշել են Տոկիոյում Ռուսաստանի դեսպան Նիկոլայ Նոզդրյովին կանչել ԱԳՆ։

Ճապոնիան հավակնում է Կուրիլյան կղզիների հարավային չորս կղզիներին՝ Իտուրուպին, Կունաշիրին, Շիկոտանին և Հաբոմային, վկայակոչելով 1855 թվականի առևտրի և սահմանների մասին պայմանագիրը։

Մոսկվայի դիրքորոշումն այն է, որ Հարավային Կուրիլները Երկրորդ համաշխարհային պատերազմի արդյունքներով ընդգրկվել են ԽՍՀՄ կազմում, և դրանց նկատմամբ Ռուսաստանի ինքնիշխանությունը կասկածի ենթակա չէ։

Նախօրեին ՌԴ նախագահը հայտարարել էր, որ Ռուսաստանը չի սպառնում Ճապոնիային և այդ երկրի նկատմամբ որևէ պահանջ չունի, մինչդեռ Ճապոնիան տարածքային պահանջներ ունի Ռուսաստանի նկատմամբ։
