ՄԵԾ ՊԱՀՔ, օր տասնչորսերորդ, ԱՆԱՌԱԿԻ ԿԻՐԱԿԻ
Հիսուս ասում է.
-Մի մարդ երկու որդի ուներ: Կրտսերը հորն ասաց. «Հա՛յր, քո ունեցվածքից ինձ ընկնող բաժինը հիմա՛ տուր ինձ»: Եվ հայրն իր որդիների մեջ բաժանեց իր ունեցվածքը: Մի քանի օր հետո կրտսեր որդին վերցրեց իր ամբողջ հարստությունը և գնաց հեռու երկիր: Այնտեղ անառակ կյանք վարելով՝ նա մսխեց հարստությունը և սպառեց իր ամբողջ ունեցվածքը: 
Պատահեց, որ այդ երկրում սաստիկ սով տիրեց, երբ ինքն արդեն սկսել էր աղքատանալ: Ուստի գնաց, այդ երկրի քաղաքացիներից մեկի մոտ ծառա եղավ, և սա ուղարկեց նրան իր ագարակը՝ խոզեր արածեցնելու:
Նա նույնիսկ պատրաստ էր խոզերի կերած եղջերենու պտուղով իր փորը լցնելու, սակայն ոչ ոք այդ նրան չէր տալիս: Երբ անդրադարձավ իր վիճակին, ինքն իրեն ասաց. «Քանի աշխատավորներ կան իմ հոր տանը, որոնք իրենց պետք եղած կերակուրից ավելին ունեն, մինչ ես այստեղ սովամահ եմ լինում: Վեր կենամ գնամ հորս մոտ և ասեմ նրան. “Հա՛յր, մեղանչեցի Աստծու և քո դեմ, այլևս արժանի չեմ քո որդին կոչվելու, ինձ համարիր քո աշխատավորներից մեկը”»: Ապա վեր կացավ և գնաց իր հոր մոտ:
Նա տնից դեռևս բավական հեռու էր, երբ հայրը տեսավ նրան և գթաց. վազելով ընդառաջ գնաց նրան, փաթաթվեց վզին և համբուրեց: Որդին հորն ասաց. «ՀԱ՛ՅՐ, ՄԵՂԱՆՉԵՑԻ ԱՍՏԾՈՒ ԵՒ ՔՈ ԴԵՄ, այլևս արժանի չեմ քո որդին կոչվելու»: Հայրն իր ծառաներին հրամայեց. «Անմիջապես բերե՛ք լավագույն պատմուճանը և հագցրե՛ք նրան, մատանի՛ անցկացրեք նրա մատին և կոշիկնե՛ր տվեք նրան: Բերե՛ք պարարտ հորթը, մորթեցե՛ք, ուտենք և ուրախանանք, որովհետև ԻՄ ԱՅՍ ՈՐԴԻՆ ՄԵՌԱԾ ԷՐ՝ ԿԵՆԴԱՆԱՑԱՎ, ԿՈՐԱԾ ԷՐ՝ ԳՏՆՎԵՑ»: Եվ սկսեցին խրախճանքը:
Մինչ այդ ավագ որդին ագարակում էր: Վերադարձին, երբ մոտեցավ տանը, երգի և պարի ձայներ լսեց: Կանչեց ծառաներից մեկին և հարցրեց, թե ի՛նչ կա: Ծառան ասաց նրան. «Քո եղբայրն է եկել, և որովհետև նա ողջ-առողջ վերադարձավ, հայրդ մորթեց պարարտ հորթը»: Ավագ եղբայրը զայրացավ և չուզեց ներս մտնել: Իմանալով այդ մասին՝ հայրը դուրս ելավ և աղաչեց նրան, որ ներս մտնի: Իսկ նա պատասխանեց. «Տարիներ ի վեր ծառայում եմ քեզ, քո ոչ մի հրահանգ երբեք չեմ անտեսել, և սակայն դու նույնիսկ մի ուլ չտվեցիր ինձ, որ ուրախանայի բարեկամներիս հետ: Մինչդեռ երբ եկավ քո այդ որդին, որը քո ունեցվածքը մսխեց պոռնիկների հետ, դու պարարտ հորթը մորթեցիր նրա համար»: Հայրը նրան ասաց. «Տղա՛ս, դու միշտ ինձ հետ ես, և իմ ամբողջ ունեցածը քոնն է: Հիմա պիտի ուրախանանք և ցնծանք, որովհետև քո այս եղբայրը մեռած էր՝ կենդանացավ, կորած էր՝ գտնվեց»:
