Նեպալցի լեռնագնաց Նիրմալ Պուրջան զոհվել է Պակիստանում Բրոուդ Փիք (8,051 մ) լեռան վրա տեղի ունեցած ձնահոսքի հետևանքով։ Այս մասին հայտնել է Elite Exped ընկերությունը, որի համահիմնադիրն էր Պուրջան։
«Այսօր խոր ցավով և սրտում հսկայական կսկիծով հաստատում ենք, որ Նիրմալ Պուրջան զոհվել է Բրոուդ Փիք լեռան վրա ձնահոսքի հետևանքով։ Մենք նաև հաստատում ենք ստացել, որ այս արշավախմբի մյուս մասնակիցները, ցավոք, ողջ չեն մնացել։ Այսօր մենք սգում ենք ոչ միայն Նիրմալի, այլև այս ողբերգության պատճառով խլված յուրաքանչյուր կյանքի համար, ներառյալ նրա վերելքների հուսալի ընկերներին ու ուղեկցորդներին՝ Պուր Բահադուր Գուրունգին (Յուկտա) և Նիմա Շերպային», - ասված է ընկերության հրապարակած հայտարարության մեջ։
Հուլիսի 29-ին Նեպալից, Պակիստանից, ԱՄՆ-ից, Օմանից և Չինաստանից 10 լեռնագնացներից բաղկացած թիմը սկսել էր վերելքը Բրոուդ Փիք։ Արշավախումբը գլխավորում էր 43-ամյա Պուրջան։ Հուլիսի 30-ին տեղական ժամանակով կեսօրին մոտ լեռան վրա ձնահոսք է տեղի ունեցել, ինչից հետո խմբի հետ կապը կորել է։ GPS-տվիչների համաձայն՝ մարզիկներին շպրտել է մեկ կիլոմետր ներքև։
Պուրջան 2019 թվականին իր անունը գրեց լեռնագնացության պատմության մեջ՝ նվաճելով աշխարհի բոլոր 14 ամենաբարձր գագաթները ռեկորդային կարճ ժամանակահատվածում՝ վեց ամիս և վեց օրում։ Այս ռեկորդը պահպանվեց մինչև 2023 թվականը։ Նա նաև դարձավ առաջին լեռնագնացը, ով 48 ժամվա ընթացքում հասավ Էվերեստի, Լհոցզեի և Մակալուի գագաթներին։
