ԱՄՆ-ում Չիկագո քաղաքի 21-ամյա բնակչին մեղադրանք է առաջադրվել ատելության հողի վրա կատարված հանցագործության, հրկիզման և մի շարք այլ իրավախախտումների համար, երբ նա քաղաքային այգիներից մեկում այրել է փայտե խաչ, հաղորդում է Associated Press-ը:
Միջադեպը տեղի է ունեցել հունիսի 9-ին Գրանտ պարկում: Քննության տվյալներով՝ մեղադրյալը Մերլին Լուն է։ Նրան առաջադրվել է չորս քրեական մեղադրանք և չորս մեղադրանք՝ նվազ ծանր հոդվածներով, դրանց թվում՝ ատելության հողի վրա կատարված հանցագործություն և վախեցնելու նպատակով խաչի հրկիզում:
Ձերբակալությունից քիչ առաջ Լուն տեղական հեռուստաալիքին տված հարցազրույցում խոստովանել է, որ հենց ինքն է այրել խաչը, սակայն հերքել է ռասիստական դրդապատճառների մասին մեղադրանքները։ Նրա բնորոշմամբ՝ ակցիան ուղղված է եղել ԱՄՆ նախագահ Դոնալդ Թրամփի և քրիստոնեական նացիոնալիզմի կողմնակիցների դեմ։
«Ես հասկանում եմ, թե ինչու է դա հենց այդպես ընկալվել, և դրա համար ներողություն եմ խնդրում, բայց ես նման մտադրություն չեմ ունեցել»,- հայտարարել է նա:
Լուն նաև խոստովանել է, որ գիտեր աֆրոամերիկացիներին վախեցնելու հետ այրվող խաչերի պատմական կապի մասին, սակայն, ըստ նրա, ինքը չէր գիտակցում, թե որքանով իր գործողությունները կընկալվեն որպես ռասայական ատելության դրսևորում։
«Իմ բողոքը ոչ մի կապ չունի ո՛չ ռասայի, ո՛չ էլ սեռի հետ»,- ասել է նա հեռուստաալիքին։
Այրվող խաչի խորհրդանիշը ԱՄՆ-ում ավանդաբար ասոցացվում է ռասիստական կազմակերպությունների, առաջին հերթին՝ Կու-կլուքս-կլանի գործունեության հետ, որոնք նման ակցիաներն օգտագործում էին սևամորթ բնակչությանը և այլ խմբերին ահաբեկելու համար:
Միջադեպից հետո այրված խաչի տեղում հայտնվել է սրտի տեսքով մեծ, գունավոր ինստալյացիա՝ «Տոկունություն» (Resilient) մակագրությամբ։
Ըստ ամերիկյան լրատվամիջոցների՝ Մերլին Լուն սովորել է Ինդիանա և Իլինոյս նահանգների քոլեջներում և քիմիա է ուսումնասիրել։ Մոտ ժամանակներս նա պետք է կանգնի դատարանի առաջ, որտեղ կքննարկվի խափանման միջոցի հարցը։
