Կուբան վերջին տարիների ամենածանր տնտեսական ճգնաժամերից մեկն է ապրում՝ ԱՄՆ-ի կողմից շարունակվող նավթային շրջափակման և զբոսաշրջության կտրուկ անկման ֆոնին։
Ինչպես գրում է The Guardian-ը, կղզի դեռևս գալիս են առանձին օտարերկրյա զբոսաշրջիկներ, սակայն ճանապարհորդների հոսքը կրճատվել է մինչև նվազագույն մակարդակների։
Պարբերականի տվյալներով՝ 2025 թվականի մարտին Կուբա է այցելել շուրջ 170 հազար զբոսաշրջիկ, մինչդեռ 2026 թվականի մարտին՝ ընդամենը 20–25 հազար մարդ։ Զբոսաշրջությունը, որը մնում էր երկրի համար արտարժույթի հիմնական աղբյուրներից մեկը, փաստացի կաթվածահար է եղել։ Վառելիքի պակասի պատճառով բազմաթիվ ավիաչվերթներ չեղարկվել են, իսկ զբոսաշրջության ոլորտի հազարավոր աշխատակիցներ կորցրել են աշխատանքը։
Ճգնաժամը սրվել է այն բանից հետո, երբ ԱՄՆ նախագահ Դոնալդ Թրամփի վարչակազմը ուժեղացրել է ճնշումը Հավանայի վրա՝ սահմանափակելով կղզի նավթի մատակարարումները։ Վենեսուելայի առաջնորդ Նիկոլաս Մադուրոյի տապալումից հետո Վենեսուելայից վառելիքի մատակարարումները գրեթե դադարել են, իսկ Վաշինգտոնը սկսել է պատժամիջոցներով և մաքսատուրքերով սպառնալ այն երկրներին, որոնք շարունակում են նավթ վաճառել Կուբային։
Հետևանքները զգացվում են ամբողջ երկրում։ Մարտին Կուբայի ազգային էներգահամակարգը մասամբ փլուզվել է՝ շուրջ 10 միլիոն մարդու թողնելով առանց էլեկտրականության։ Հիվանդանոցները ստիպված են եղել կրճատել վիրահատությունները, իսկ քաղաքներում սկսվել են էլեկտրաէներգիայի երկարատև անջատումներ։
Չնայած ճգնաժամին և օտարերկրյա դեսպանատների նախազգուշացումներին՝ որոշ զբոսաշրջիկներ, այնուամենայնիվ, շարունակում են գալ կղզի։
The Guardian-ը իր հոդվածում հիշատակում է նաև ամերիկացի և գերմանացի ճանապարհորդների, որոնք Կուբա ուղևորությունները համարում են տեղական բնակչությանը և փոքր բիզնեսին աջակցելու ձև։
Կուբայի իշխանությունները ԱՄՆ-ի գործողություններն անվանում են «կոլեկտիվ պատիժ» և մեղադրում Վաշինգտոնին երկիրը ապակայունացնելու փորձերի մեջ։
