Թեյը համարվում է աշխարհի ամենատարածված ըմպելիքներից մեկը և հաճախ ընկալվում է որպես անվտանգ ու օգտակար։ Սակայն մասնագետները զգուշացնում են՝ չափից շատ կամ սխալ ձևով օգտագործման դեպքում այն կարող է նաև բացասական ազդեցություն ունենալ օրգանիզմի վրա։

Բժիշկների խոսքով՝ թեյի հիմնական ռիսկը կապված է դրա մեջ պարունակվող կոֆեինի հետ։ Չափից շատ օգտագործման դեպքում այն կարող է առաջացնել նյարդային գրգռվածություն, քնի խանգարումներ և սրտխփոց։

Բացի այդ, թեյի որոշ տեսակներ կարող են խանգարել երկաթի յուրացմանը, հատկապես եթե այն խմվում է ուտելու ընթացքում կամ անմիջապես հետո։ Սա կարող է խնդիր դառնալ այն մարդկանց համար, ովքեր ունեն ցածր հեմոգլոբին կամ հակված են անեմիայի։

Մեկ այլ կարևոր հանգամանք է շատ տաք թեյի օգտագործումը։ Մասնագետները նշում են, որ չափազանց տաք ըմպելիքները կարող են գրգռել կոկորդի և կերակրափողի լորձաթաղանթը, ինչը երկարաժամկետում կարող է բացասական հետևանքներ ունենալ։

Չի բացառվում նաև, որ որոշ մարդկանց մոտ թեյը կարող է առաջացնել ստամոքսի գրգռվածություն կամ թթվայնության բարձրացում, հատկապես դատարկ ստամոքսին խմելու դեպքում։

Միևնույն ժամանակ բժիշկները շեշտում են՝ խոսքը թեյից լիովին հրաժարվելու մասին չէ։ Այն կարող է օգտակար լինել, եթե օգտագործվում է չափավոր և ճիշտ ձևով։
