Ինչու՞ են ամուսնական մատանին կրում մատնեմատին

Բոլորին հայտնի է, որ ամուսնության կարևոր նախապայմանը համարվում է ամուսնական մատանին: Հարց է առաջանում, թե ինչու հատկապես մատանի, այլ ոչ մեկ այլ զարդ, օրինակ ականջօղ կամ շղթա:
Բացատրությունն այն է, որ մատանին կլոր է և նման է փակ տարածության, որը խորհրդանշում է կայունություն, անփոփոխություն, հավերժություն և անվերջություն: Այսպիսով, մատանին համարվում է հավատարմության և հավերժ սիրո խորհրդանիշ:
Եվ ամեն դեպքում հարց է ծագում, թե ինչու են հատկապես ամուսնական մատանին կրում մատնեմատին: Համաձայն առասպելի առաջին մատանիները հայտնվել են Եգիպտոսում, որոնք պատրաստվել են ոսկուց և օգտագործվել են ամուսնության ժամանակ: Մինչ այդ նրանք վերցնում էին ոսկեգույն մետաղալար, կլոր տեսք էին տալիս նրան, որը խորհրդանշում էր հավատարմություն և սեր: Եգիպտացիները մատանին դնում էին ձախ ձեռքի միջնամատին, կարծելով, որ որ այդ մատն է միացնում երակներն ու սիրտը, այդպիսով խորհրդանշելով սերը: Այսպիսով արևելքի ժողովուրդը մատանին կրում են միջնամատին:
Եվրոպացիները սովոր են մատանին դնել աջ ձեռքի մատնեմատին: Գոյություն ունի առասպել, ըստ որի մենք պարտական ենք հնագույն էլիներին, որ կրել ենք մատանին մատնեմատին, որը վկայում է այն բանի մասին, որ տվյալ մարդու սիրտը զբաղված է: Եթե մարդը մատանին դնում էր ցուցամատին, ապա դա նշանակում էր, որ նա փնտրում էր իր կեսին:Եթե մարդը կրում էր մատանին ճկույթին, ապա դա նշանակում էր, որ նա դեռ պատրաստ չէ ամուսնանալ: Իսկ մատնեմատի մատանին վկայում էր սիրո մեջ նրա ունեցած հաջողությունների մասին:
Քրիստոնյաների քայլը շատ խելացի էր, այն, որ նրանք մատանին կրում էին ձախ ձեռքի մատնեմատին, դա վկայում էր նրանց եկեղեցական ծեսերի մասին:
