Գիտնականներն ավելի ու ավելի հաճախ են իմունային համակարգը դիտարկում որպես դեպրեսիայի և հոգեկան այլ խանգարումների բուժման հնարավոր թիրախ։ Հետազոտությունների նոր ուղղությունը ենթադրում է, որ որոշ հոգեկան ախտանշաններ կարող են առաջանալ ոչ միայն ուղեղի նյարդահաղորդիչների խանգարումների, այլև օրգանիզմի իմունային ու բորբոքային գործընթացների փոփոխությունների պատճառով։ Հենց այս գաղափարի վրա է հիմնված փորձարարական նոր թերապիան, որն այժմ պատրաստվում են ստուգել կլինիկական փորձարկումների ընթացքում։

Այս թերապիայի մասին հոդվածը հրապարակվել է Molecular Psychiatry ամսագրում։

Դեպրեսիայի բուժման ավանդական մեթոդները հիմնականում ուղղված են նյարդահաղորդիչների, օրինակ՝ սերոտոնինի և նորադրենալինի աշխատանքի շտկմանը։ Սակայն պացիենտների զգալի մասը (ըստ որոշ գնահատականների՝ մինչև մեկ երրորդը) վատ է արձագանքում գոյություն ունեցող դեղամիջոցներին։ Սա հետազոտողներին ստիպում է փնտրել հիվանդության կենսաբանական այլընտրանքային մեխանիզմներ։

Ավելի ու ավելի շատ տվյալներ փաստում են, որ դեպրեսիա ունեցող մարդկանց մի մասի մոտ նկատվում են քրոնիկ բորբոքման և իմունային կարգավորման խանգարումների նշաններ։

Բուժման նոր ռազմավարությունը հիմնված է այն գաղափարի վրա, որ իմունային ազդակներն ընդունակ են անմիջականորեն ազդել ուղեղի աշխատանքի վրա։ Իմունային համակարգի որոշ մոլեկուլներ, օրինակ՝ ցիտոկինները, կարող են փոփոխել նեյրոնների ակտիվությունը, ազդել տրամադրության, մոտիվացիայի և էներգիայի մակարդակի վրա։ Եթե հաջողվի վերահսկել այս գործընթացները, դա կարող է բացել դեպրեսիայի բուժման նոր ուղի հատկապես այն պացիենտների համար, որոնց դեպքում ստանդարտ հակադեպրեսանտներն անարդյունավետ են։

Հետազոտողներն այժմ մշակում են իմունոթերապևտիկ մոտեցում, որը պետք է ներգործի հոգեկան ախտանշանների հետ կապված բորբոքային մեխանիզմների վրա։ Ապագա կլինիկական փորձարկումների շրջանակում գիտնականները ծրագրում են ստուգել՝ արդյոք նման թերապիան կարող է նվազեցնել դեպրեսիայի, տագնապի և հոգեկան այլ խանգարումների դրսևորումները։ Որոշ մասնագետներ կարծում են, որ եթե այս ռազմավարությունը հաստատի իր արդյունավետությունը, այն կարող է արմատապես փոխել պատկերացումները դեպրեսիայի բուժման մասին։

Միևնույն ժամանակ հետազոտողներն ընդգծում են, որ նոր թերապիան դեռևս մշակման վաղ փուլում է։ Անհրաժեշտ է անցկացնել կլինիկական փորձարկումներ՝ պարզելու դրա անվտանգությունը, արդյունավետությունը և թե պացիենտների որ խմբերի համար է այն լավագույնս համապատասխանում։ Այդուհանդերձ, իմունային համակարգի և հոգեկան վիճակի միջև կապի աճող ընկալումը կարող է ապագայում հանգեցնել հոգեկան խանգարումների բուժման բոլորովին նոր մեթոդների ստեղծմանը։
