Ֆրանսահայ լեգենդար երգիչ Շառլ Ազնավուրը ամերիկյան հեղինակավոր CNN հեռուստաալիքին հարցազրույց է տվել՝ անդրադառնալով Թուրքիայի կողմից Հայոց ցեղասպանության ճանաչման խնդրին: Լրագրողը հիշեցրել է, որ աշխարհահռչակ երաժիշտը 2015 թվականի ապրիլի 24-ին այցելել էր Հայաստան՝ մասնակցելու Ցեղասպանության 100-րդ տարելիցի միջոցառումներին, ինչի շրջանակում ասել էր, որ իր համար կարևոր չէ` արդյոք մարդիկ կիրառում են «ցեղասպանություն » եզրույթը, թե ոչ, կարևորը ճանաչելն է այն, ինչ եղել է:«Դուք միանգամայն իրավացի եք: Ինչո՞ւ թուրքերը չպետք է ճանաչեն կատարվածը: Ոչ ոք թուրքերին չի հարցնում, թե ինչու են սպանել հայերին: Կրոնի՞ համար... չեմ կարծում: Ես կարդացել եմ Ղուրանը՝ հասկանալու, թե արդյոք կա դրանում որևէ բան, սակայն չկար, հետևաբար կրոնը պատճառ լինել չէր կարող»,- ասել է Ազնավուրը:

Այն հարցին, թե ինչ է իր համար հայ լինելը, շանսոնյեն նշել է, որ իր համար պակաս կարևոր չէ ֆրանսիացի լինելը, սակայն ինքը ծագումով հայ է և երբեք դա չի ժխտում: «Ես հայ եմ և չեմ պատրաստվում դա մերժել: Դա սարսափելի է: Ես չեմ սիրում այն մարդկանց, ովքեր թաքցնում են որոշ բաներ՝ վախենալով ինչ-որ տեղ չընդունվելուց: Դու չե՞ս սիրում հայերին, ուրեմն ես գնում եմ, հաջողություն»,- նշել է Ազնավուրը:

CNN-ի լրագրողը փորձել է հասկանալ, թե ո՞րն է երգչի հաջողության գաղտնիքը՝ հաշվի առնելով, որ նրա ստեղծագործական գործունեության ամենավաղ շրջանում քննադատներն ասում էին, թե նա «չափազանց տգեղ է և կարճահասակ ու ունի ահավոր ձայն»: «Ի դժբախտություն այդ քննադատների, ովքեր դա ասել են, ես հաջողություն ունեցա: Ես ամեն գիշեր մեկ ժամ գիրք եմ կարդում և ևս մեկ ժամ տարբեր լեզուներով նոր բան եմ սովորում նախքան քնելը»,- հայտնել է Ազնավուրը՝ հավելելով, որ այժմ փորձում է սովորել ռուսերեն:
